somewhere, over the rainbow...
ive just got round to fitting my rebuilt wheels using an ebc disc that was on them when i got them (2nd hand) but id never tried myself. now when i brake there is a definate pulsing through the lever. it feels more like a difference in friction rather than a wobbly disc. the disc seems straight to the eye and there is some small disc pad shaped patches of corrosion, it being a cast iron disc. has anybody had there discs skimmed? if so, by who? it would be a shame to bin these disc as it seems fairly new. any other thoughts?

cheers.

If it's fairly light corrosion, take it and have it blasted, failing that send it to me and I'll skim it..............but you'd be better off with a stainless disc, DAMHIK!

Sounds like you are getting a pulse from the place where the previous pads where allowed to build up some corrosion when left standing. ie a lump of rust on the surface of the disc. Not a biggie and quite common with cast iron discs. The EBC (:barf) on the back of my 1200 does it too.

You can either take the bike for a spin and apply gentle (but not constant, you don't want to cook the pads) braking till it goes smooth again or get a wire thingy on your electric drill and gently remove the worst of it. It's unlikely that you have a warped disc. My 1200 puts a whole lot more pressure on the disc than an Arihead ever will and I've not had any more than simple pad to disc corrosion.

However as said above junk the **** thing and put a propper one on :thumb2

Val.

PS: A car mechanic mate of mine used to glue really corse grinding pad material to old disc pads and then take the cars for a short spin up the lane to sort out rust and glazing problems. 100 yards of light peddle pressure at 15-20mph sorted most problems out

FFS :blast:blast:blast:blast
Use the bloody thing :comfort, any bike with cast iron or overwintered discs will have a slight pulse, soon disappears with use :rob....
Gertie will have exactly the same symptoms as yours, by the time I've got to MOT station they will be perfect :thumb2

Well as perfect as any airhead brake can be :augie

I had exactly the same on a front disc of mine.
I couldnt suss the problem out, (Wheel perfect, forks all ok etc etc etc )
I put a DTI across the disc, and it ran perfectly
I renewed the disc and the problem dissapeared.

The only explanation i could come up with was different amounts of "porosity" across the face of the disc.

Hope that helps
