Pump the fuel?

Am I right in thinking that, if one bypassed the fuel controller as shown in the attached link,

it would be possible to run fuel pump, directly from the battery, with a suitable fuse?

If so, it could be useful for pumping empty the tank, perhaps?

In a rush, in France, I filled my tank with 32 litres of prime diesel.

Despite siphoning a considerable quantity out (32 litres is one hell of a lot) a substantial amount was still sploshing around.

Being in a rush, I disconnected the fuel pipe and turned the motor over, pumping fuel out. This is a true gash emergency procedure as:

(a) The starter motor gets bloody hot.

(b) The battery flattens.

(c) It's not a great pump, when used with the starter motor.

Of course one could take the whole tank off.....

Am I missing something?
