I've never had a flat tyre but I'm about to go on my first long trip, I thought I'd be fine with BMW's kit but having just seen Helge Pedersen's DVD I'm no longer so confident, he recommends Genuine Innovations' Durol Plugs but he doesn't say anything about what kind of cartridges should be used and the guys at G.I. offer like twenty different inflators. What do you use?

Another vote for Stop'n'Go and a Slime compressor.

Before I had the compressor I used to use an small efficient bicycle pump....one that pumps on the in-stroke and half pumps on the out-stroke. You work up a puff yourself but it never breaks or runs out of CO2.

The last fall back reserve? Use a London courier's staple solution. Get a stubby self-tapping screw, maybe half an inch long, and screw it into where the nail or whatever went in.

Chances are it will plug the hole very well. If it doesn't, well your tyre was flat anyway.
