Pure road tyre

My tyre dealer went to test the Dunlops at their launch and came back raving about them. He said they'd gone all out to beat the current market leader, the PR4 and in his opinion they'd achieved it. He's an ex racer and knows how to put a tyre through its paces so I'll take him at his word. My PR4's have only got a couple of thousand on them so won't need changing for a while yet, but I'm tempted to give the new Road Smarts a coat of looking at when they do.

Scorpion Trail II seem to offer what I need 95/5 road to off road bias possibly without being as likely to puncture as the PR4

PR3's or 4's not available as far as I know for the F800GS as I wanted to fit pure road tyres myself.

I must say, in the few miles - I've had PR4s on my 2010 Adv............. they feel rather good!

The bike seems more nimble, changing direction faster/easier. Less rumble than the (orig) Tourances - for sure.

(so far all the compressed air I paid for - still belongs to me :D)

I don't think anyone feels the PR4 is not a great tyre on the road in wet or dry conditions, I certainly think it's a great tyre and used several up on my K1300S, the problems are picking up silly punctures and wear life on adventure bikes.

As far as road noise is concerned, if it is caused by the tread pattern again the PR4, should be better than the OEMs choice and other comparable tyres.

I really like the feel of the Anakee 3s, just not the noise but wear life is also a consideration, riding style is a great influence but so is weight distribution and load. I don't know what my GS weighs all up including the FB on the seat, but I'm sure it's more than the K1300 and this together with a friend who rides also rides a 1200 GS and fitted PR4s after Anakees is going back to Anakees because of poor mileage makes the whole conundrum more confusing.

Has anyone tried Avon Trailriders?

Not very scientific but I like the look of them!

If my original Anakee 3's lasted longer I would buy them again, can't say that I have noticed any excessive noise that other people complain about.

Just put a set of Trailriders on, still breaking in so far too early to give a fully considered opinion.
Feel ok at the moment but will update once a few more miles on.
Came from Anakee 3's which were fine too but knackered at 4000 miles plus wanted a little more off road ability.

I have the Metzler roadtech 01's being fitted Friday, ready for my tour to Spain a week tomorrow....
Metzler are offering £30 cash back on a lot of their range at the moment.
I'll put some feedback up after my trip to the Picos mountains in Spain next week 👍👍

Just had my rear PR4 changed at GTC in Chilworth, I got 6953 miles with no punctures.......happy days

I'm going through the tyre conundrum just now. This is my first adventure bike (R1150GSA 2005) after road bikes so am more confused than a chameleon in a bag if Skittles.

My riding is solely on road. My commute is 10 miles e/w through London traffic in all weathers, couple with pleasure riding I do about 15k miles a year. I prefer stability over a quick turn in and I rarely take a pillion. My tyre wishlist is:

  1. Cost - would rather not spend more than £200 fitted
  2. Wet grip - confidence is fine in the dry but in the wet my balls shrink considerably
  3. Dry grip
  4. Mileage

My local tyre dealer has a good deal on Anakee 2 at £165 fitted. Everything else is around the £200 mark.

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

:)

Edit - just realised that I've posted this in the GS1200 W/C forum - that'll teach me to just do a search and post.

I've tried Anakee 3's. Noisy.
PR4 Trail. Didn't like the profile and they tend to roll when pushed.
Now on Metz 01's. Absolutely bloody awesome. Get some!
