Oh great Oracle, please grant me the benefit of your wisdom...

Probably going to be bunging some dodgy leaded fuel in my GSA soon.
Anyone got any tips for removing the Cat ?

Any other tweeks need doing at the same time or will the engine management system take care of the changes to tuning etc ?

Don't particularly want to ask my local dealer :augie

Cheers

Easiest is to stick some Remus headers on - no issues with them.

Or are you going to do it the hard way?

You can chop the CAT out but it's not the best solution.

Nice new set of Keihan headers will do the trick nicely sir:augie

I've often wondered why you would want to remove the Cat. if you are going to run leaded petrol

AFAIK the only harm running leaded petrol will do is to contaminate the Cat. and render it useless.
So you now have a bike with a Cat. that no longer does what it should but otherwise runs no differently with no harm to the engine.

If you remove the Cat. / change headers you get the same result, ie a none working Cat. ('cos it's not there). Do peeps actually change back to running a Cat. once back from the land of leaded petrol? I think not. So whay not leave as is :nenau

Now, if you remove the Cat. for a performance boost then that's another matter all together :thumb2

Just curious: why would replacing the headers be better than chopping the cat from the original, and if so, how much better?

You get the same result i.e a power hike of around 5hp and better low down grunt.

The advantage of fitting new headers is you can return the bike to it's original when you come to sell it. You can then re sell the headers on here or fleabay and get most of your investment back. It also very easy to do, takes 20 minutes to fit as opposed to hacking your exhaust to bits and then rewelding it back together.

Ah, thanks for the carification! Reason I asked is that I was able to pickup an OEM set for cheap, and was thinking of chopping that one. What has kept me from doing it so far has been the debate on whether a PC or RB is necessary or not (08 model).

Again, thanks!

Would you not need a cat to pass the emissions part of the MOT ?
The reason for removing it is so you can put it back in to MOT it.

Don't believe that emissions are part of a bike's MOT - never seen the tester stick his probe up a bike's exhaust yet....!!

Oh ! Just goes to show how out of touch i am !
Wonder why they don't have an emissions test on bikes ?
