i have a pc here, clean xp install. all seems well until i go to shut it off, windows exits as normal but power to the unit stays on [fans, drives etc]
i don't know how it behaved before i reinstalled as i never noticed.
after windows exits, if i press the power button it shuts down properly. normally this is associated with enabling APM in the control panel, only it IS enabled & i don't get the "it is safe to turn off your pc" message.
APM is enabled in the BIOS which i have scanned for a culprit but have drawn a blank.
as a side issue one of the cd-roms activity leds blinks incessantly whenever power is on. not the looking for disc activity bug i've encountered before, but much faster 3/4 times per second. this issue not related as shut down still problematical with cd-rom disconnected.
all suggestions welcome....
