Pyramid Hugger - Questions

I had the bike in for a 6k service last week. And have been pondering a hugger for a while, and they had 'em in stock, so I said "Fit one, please".

I have to say it's quite effective at keeping the shite off me legs, etc. -- BUT!

It rubs on the tyre at both sides, and it fouls the original guard on the shock.
It's only been on a week, and it's aleady quite wornaway by the tyre, and another week will probably see a hole in it where it rubs the shock guard.

Reading posts on here it seems Pyramid produced a new version aimed at addressing tyre clearance problems. ( It's a GS with Tourance - no knoblies).

So, the questions are - Which version have I got? - early or modified? Anybody know the difference(s)?

If the original shite catcher is to be re-fitted as well as the hugger, there is a problem with the spacer for the topmost of the three fixing bolts, which attaches with caliper bolt, as does the hugger, and thus throws out the alignment of the hugger. (Dealer didn't refit shit catcher for this reason).

(Incidentally, running for a week without the shite catcher has shown me that it is really very effective - topbox covered in shite without it).

Anybody been down this road, and so got any Solutions for this problem?
( Description is not very clear unless you are familiar with the problem, and before you ask, photo's won't help).

Phil,
I also bought one for my 12GSA. The instructions said to remove the original shock guard as it would foul the hugger but the original crud catcher could remain.
Mine rubbed the offside of the tyre so I contacted Pyramid.
They say that the original hugger is not compatible with Tourances:eek: & they were developing a MK2
I mentioned that Tourances were the standard fitment on both my 1150GS and the 1200GSA. I emailed photos and returned the hugger to the dealer I bought it from on their instructions.

"Thank you for the pictures. Your comments have been forwarded to the M.D.
Mr D Cotton." (that was 18th May 07 - still waiting for either a MK2 hugger or a refund)
Sounds like yours is a MK1 - surely they couldn't make it even worse.

Hope this helps.

Pyramid Hugger

Pyramid are developing a mk 2 version, but as yet it has not been released approx 4-6weeks.I,m waiting for my replacement .:Motomartin

The hugger was fitted minus the standard crud catcher when I bought it, but as you mention, it was fouling the base of the spring cover!

I removed the spring cover, as the Pyramid protected the spring anyway and fitted the crud catcher as well as the pyramid.

Next I noticed that the Pyramid was rubbing the RH edge of the tyre - Anakee, only slightly and it looked as though a wee adjustment was needed, so I removed the Pyramid and held the base [fixing end] of the metal part of the hugger and twisted the metal part clockwise [hope that makes sense?] just so as to slightly realign the mudguard part.

Hey presto, all fitted again and no fouling!

Bottom line is they do their job very well and can fit well just with a bit of tweaking!

Yes! a bit of tweaking may be required, but mine rubs left and right.

And I'm reluctant to tweak too much 'cos then I may no comeback on supplier/Pyramid.

And as NI Phil points out above - Pyramid seem to say that Tourances are a problem. Maybe they are a bit "fatter" than the others?

Just got off the bone to Pyramid - very helpful!

Yes! - the problem with tyre clearance is known, it's Tourances, and a new hugger is being made as we speak, they said. It's based on the one from the R1200S, apparently, and thus is wider, but it's not available quite yet, but soon.

I have to return mine to the supplying dealer, who in turn is to return it to Pyramid.

Sorted (ish) !!!!!
