I could be wrong but most of the dirt ends up on the oil filter and the area around it. This mudguard extender would still not stop muck flying up off the wheel once the centrifugal forces take place.
The point at where the back of the wheel loses contact with the ground is surely the place where the mud detaches and this is still not covered by the mudguard

Just fitted mine, from NN, after a long wait (ordered in July, I think, and arrived about a week ago). Haven't seen enough mucky stuff yet to comment on its effectiveness, though.
However, I couldn't say whether it's Pyramid or some other manufacturer, I forget what it said on the bag - but it does look just like theirs.

combine this with the bmw bash plate and you'd have one very clean bike...
beats having to clean all that crud off

My thoughts exactly, plus it's "relatively" cheap and easy to install
