QAC - Quest Audio Only

This began last week with a forum question by Dreamer and has resulted in QAC. Again anyone wanting this, can find it on gps warehouse (www.gpsw.co.uk) using the quick search, type QAC and hit return key. Images will be posted in a few days.

QAC is for pedal cyclists and bikers, who want to use Quest in battery mode but still get the benefit of the audible instructions.

QAC has a moulded connector pad (2 pins used) and attaches onto the RAM GA15 cradle and has a short lead with a 2.5mm (QAC-25) or 3.5mm (QAC-35) female jack socket, so an earphone/earpice, helmet headset or mini headphones for the pedal pushers can be used.

Mouse... this caused me trouble ... QAC, Qwack, even KAK and it goes on.

I have settled for Q - A - C and the QPAC is pronounced Q-PACK.

Our next project is the 2610/2720 power lead which had female gps warehouse staff smiling when they thought GSer's would be calling 'em up and asking for a 'Spanc', so we've dropped the 'N' - but boy, was I tempted not to!.

I understand that the battery lasts about 20hrs usually before needing a recharge. Is this affected much by using the QAC?

Andrew in one word - No, as Quest responds in the same normal battery mode use if it wasn't fitted, the audio directions are still being emitted when there's no connection.

QAC is now ACQ

As I remove the rusty pins from a RAM-man doll effigy made of me, I concede its now ACQ-25 or ACQ-35.

So no more QAC.

I will order a QAC to plug into my Autocom. Am I correct in thinking that 2.5mm version is correct?

Did I also read somewhere about some other sound issue with the Autocom which required a special lead from Autocom? I know I should search...

GrinninGSer- I suggest check, as far as I know, the comms units can be fitted with either or both (2.5mm and 3.5mm jack sockets), so we prepare for both.

OK RAM, I have an 'ACQ' and powered by the BMW socket.

Question- If I decide to cut the BMW type plug off and hardwire the ACQ, what colour wires will I find and in other words is it easy to tell which is positive/negative ?

Another issue is that all working well BUT I get the electrical-alternator type whine with the Quest through the Autocom sound (as already reported on this site). Re routing the wires has no effect.

For anyone's interest, Autocom have suggested that I need:
a)their mono to stereo plug (cos Quest is mono and Autocom likes stereo)
b)Part 57 (which they say does not only reduce volume but fixes some sort of earth problem). Total cost £29

QPAC03 is what I have... (which for the benefit of those who do not know has a BMW plug, 1.5amp fuse and importantly 1.7m cable length. The shorter QPAC02 will not reach the seat power socket on a 1200GS and the salesman nearly sold me one of those, but I queried the cable length )

Now have sound and power- but as previously, had an alternator type whine with sound.

Now sorted, but required Autocom mono to stereo lead plus Autocom part 57 which is a 'twin isolated input adaptor lead.' Cost of Autocom bits £30 inc p&p

An earlier thread said that part 57 simply reduced the sound level, but I can report that sound level difference is negligible and it has worked 100%

G..GSer, mentions a 'twin isolated input adaptor lead.' Cost of Autocom bits £30 inc p&p, and if my 'ol' memory is correct, TechStar (aka StarCom1) have somthing similar , the part is TAB-35 at similar £.
