QPAC - Quest Power & Audio cable

These days, I am surrounded by three phone lines and then I can get called to assist GPSW front of house.. (and there's only one of me) so its best to call me on the RAM line (use link at top of page) ..

Using this set up .. 1150 gs, to be hardwired, autocomm

Suggest using QPAC01-35 , the 01 version is bare wire end with inline fuse and -35 means 3.5mm female jack which I assume the autocom would prefer.

I had a sample of the QPAC02 and QPAC03 'BMW' plug version in my hands yesterday and they look good - pics shall appear on gpsw site in a day or so.

I have run this past the QPAC dev engineer who has assisted in the reply.

This detail is relevant to user's of either QPAC or the G bike mount kit.

QPAC can be wired directly to the battery, but ... (always a but) and it may be stating the obvious to others, but here goes...

*It will draw a small amount of current from the battery (200mA), even when the Quest is not in the cradle. This will not drain/discharge the battery unless the bike remains unused or stored for a couple of months.

*If the user leaves Quest in the cradle, (eg an overnight stop or when in the garage) and Quest is switched off. The Quest will draw battery power and may contribute to a faster discharge of the battery. So the suggestion is when not in use, remove Quest as over a period time, natural electro-erosion will form. QPAC has gold contact pins.

* You can hardwire QPAC to the battery, or better still, to a 12 volt supply point such as the bike’s ignition, so when the key is switched on, so is QPAC and Quest.

* Never leave Quest overnight in the mount when parked up or in the garage, remove it from the cradle.

Recommended Earphone

Hi,

Could anyone recommend a good ear piece that will connect to the 3.5mm female socket on the QPAC. I will be wearning earplusg so I am looking for a flat circular type earphone.

Thanks

Trevor

Just heard today ..

First QPAC units begin arriving w/c July 18th .. bout bl**dy time .. after having to tell 'uncle sam' that 'us folks' in England-land would not make 'em into WMD by the umpteenth time of saying it , I was almost having second thoughts ..

QPAC appears on the GPS Warehouse website (www.gpsw.co.uk) use search box and type QPAC.

Now to book a holiday ..

QPAC in my hands

Guys.. I have in my hands 2 QPAC units ..

They are:
QPAC01-35 bare wire end version to hard wire onto the bike
QPAC02-35 short cable version with BMW Plug (for GS)

I need two 'local' GSers to road test 'em. You should have Quest and the RAM mount and GA15 to qualify. I stress its only 2 units I have.

I expect my phone to ring within a few minutes...

Forum member 'Jon' gets the QPAC02-35 short cable version with BMW Plug (for GS), so its just the QPAC01-35 that remains..

Ram

If I qualify I will test a bare wire for you.

I have a quest with the rasm kit as supplied by GPSW

I am Harrow based

Steve,

Cheers, any particular time to pop in?

I might send SWMBO round as she works just round the corner.

Or do you require me and the bike?

Hi Steve,
Hope you're well. Have just got home from work and seen this post.
I've got the Quest, the RAM mount and the GA15. I'm happy to give it a go with the remaining GS plug version if you like.

I'm working again tomorrow so wont see any reply you may leave until late tomorrow afternoon.

All the best
Steve

Jon has QPAC02 and Keef if he calls in shall get QPAC01.

QPAC shall arrive w/c July 18th so its pretty close.

I have posted links to the GPS Warehouse site but here's what they did in US on Friday. This is a hot ticket. http://www.ram-mount.com/products/qpac.htm

Guys how are you getting on with the leads? Any feedback would be good.
Cheers

Beemer,

Early days yet, but things are looking good. I fitted the Qpac01 very easily all the fittings are included in the kit. I used the feed to the starter motor as a pickup for the power.
The ram mount is as steady as it was before the qpac was mounted to it. and so far I have had no problems with interuptions to the power supply to my Quest. The connectors on the Qpac are springy so a good contact should be made at all time.
I have been on smooth and rough roads at various speeds. A change I might make later would be to install a switch between the voltage regulater and the battery just to eliminate the possibility of battery drain.

But at the moment I am very happy with the QPAC:D

Thanks for that Keef, I'll be getting one once the supplies are plentiful but it's good to hear comments from a user.

Cheers
Steve

Keef, thanks for the post, I had missed this ...

Jon has told me of his +ve experiences over the weeked (he's using QPAC02 with the Migsel speedo bracket, arm & cradle) as a set up on his GS and did some tests for me. To paraphrase Jon, he tells me, he used it 44 miles up the M40 to Oxford and then a further 50 miles along twisty A-roads, coming back. He deliberately had the Quest on for a while as there wasn't a complete charge in the unit. Later it was fully charged and showing the "powered" icon. I trust Jon will mention more of this in the forum when his bed and boxes are moved up the street.

Beemer, I posted a note in an earlier Forum thread saying that the QPAC units are shipping w/c July 18th and its been assured to me.

QPAC update for Ram-man

Ram-man and anyone else who is interested.

I have clocked @ 1500 /2000 miles since I got the QPAC from you and felt it time for an update.

Not much to update you with really, I cannot find fault with the unit. It has worked perfectly in all weatehers so far. I have not been using the speaker jack for a while so I cannot tell you how that is going but it was fine before I stopped using voice.

I have yet to put a switch in line so I can stop any chance of power drain, but I cact see that causing any problems.

Steve this is a top quality of kit.

cheers

Keith

Purchased my QPAC a few weeks ago and have to agree with Keith, top bit of kit.

I've wired mine into an ignition switched live which also suppies my aux' lights.

Very pleased with it and it was well worth the wait. :D

Still working fine :thumb

The only change I've done is to put a right angled socket on instead of the std one, from RS

R266024-91.jpg

It makes the short power lead sit better on the bike, ie out of the way of the speedo, and sits "snugger" in the socket I think.

Also, if you use the right angled socket on anything in the bottom power socket, it sits behind H&B engine bars, nicely out of the way.
