In the hope that someone on here is contemplating selling or part-exing their car in the coming couple of months...we are after something reliable, with history, average mileage and something that will be happy doing a 200mile round trip week in week out...so ideally something like a Volvo V60/XC60, BMW X3, BMW 3 series estate, Audi A4 estate etc
The position we're in is that we will spend about 4 weeks in March and early April, to'ing and fro'ing in a hire van bringing all our stuff back to the UK from France (once HMRC give us a certificate to say we can, without paying vat/duty on our own things) Mileage on these vans is limited and we will likely be within 100km on each trip so running about trying to find a car will be a nightmare... (Our route will be Dover to East Yorkshire, via Warwickshire...so even better if you're somewhere thereabouts)
So, what have you got?
Cheers

Just the job in total comfort and as reliable as a swiss watch...resale very strong ta boot ...just saying

And not too far out the way when heading North from Dover either.

We have had out RX450h for 12 years, not had a single problem.....

Thanks Prof, a little large for us methinks, looking autotrader, they do seem remarkable value for money.

It has certainly had me looking at Lexus...weird how stuff can look huge and then you see the actual numbers

In 2018 when I bought the Porsche Macan I part exchanged our 450h Lexus in for it.
Within a couple of weeks we were missing 'Lexy' so much I bought it back from the dealer I had sold it to for £3k more.... that was the most expensive car valet I have ever had :blast

8 years on and we still have it, the Porsche has gone though.

if you want reliability then nothing like Lexus - especially the RX450H
It is also surprising what you can get in them with the back seats down

My 2019 Subaru XT (2litre turbo 237bhp) is about to go on Autotrader at £15,750 (Autotrader estimate £16040) so here's a sneak peak:
A rare petrol turbo 4x4 with 33mpg and GBP195 annual tax. I have owned this Subaru Forester XT since December 2023 and it has been nothing but reliable. I've driven c 25k miles mainly from Devon to London and back running it on Tesco99 super unleaded. The pictures were taken last week following it's annual full interior and exterior detail by Black Diamond and it is in stunning condition. The car is garaged and well looked after.

As well as an electric sun roof, black leather seats, the car comes with a detachable tow bar, OEM mud flaps, OEM carpet and rubber floor mats, OEM plastic boot protector, OEM window deflectors all round, OEM mud flaps. Air con, DAB, heated front seats, folding power mirrors, rear privacy glass, sun roof.

As you would expect and to be completely transparent, the car has the odd stone chip and there is a tiny pin head dent on the bonnet and on the O/S rear wing. None of these are noticeable.

The car has a full Subaru main dealer service history (current 53500):
April 2019 / 9 miles Unity Leicester
Feb 2020 / 9758 miles Unity Leicester
May 2021 / 14364 miles Unity Automotive
May 2022 / 16078 miles / Bell & Colvill
May 2023 / 25263 miles / Bell & Colvill
June 2024 / 31600 miles / Bell & Colvill
March 2025 / 41296 miles / Livery Dole
December 2025 / 51935 miles / Livery Dole

Last MoT 16/12/2025 with no advisories. Tyres are matching Bridgestone and at the MoT the tyres were noted as:
N/A FRONT inner 6.00 / mid 5.10 / outer 6.00
O/S FRONT inner 6.00 / mid 5.30 / outer 6.50
N/S REAR inner 4.60 / mid 3.50 / outer 4.00
O/S REAR inner 4.60 / mid 4.00 / outer 4.30

It was noted that the spare, locking wheel nuts and wheel alignment were all green. The diamond cut alloys are in great condition.

Livery Dole Subaru changed all four TPMS sensors in January at a cost of GBP600.

Livery Dole have exactly the same car for sale with 1500 more miles with fewer options for £18k.

We had one back 2008 and loved it. Many thanks but I suspect the fuel economy would mean we spend way more a month than we'd like.

Still looking. We've found a house now so have even looked at EVs but not sure how sensible it will be for us...we'll have a 200 mile round trip to parents to do each week...so for 3 or 4 months + range on a 250m range car will be sub 200 miles. Looking at stuff that does over 300miles would work...but cost shoots up. Bloody cars

Kia EV3 very nice Dave

while I have never brought a car from this guy, he does usually have interesting late cheap higher mileage cars that may interest you. he says a lot of flannel about them all being directors car motorway miles etc but they do look good value and main dealer history.

Thanks.
I did some rough calculations with guesses at what an EV with no battery warranty and 100k miles at 8 yrs old would be worth...and me doing 5 yrs of 15k a year etc.....despite way cheaper pence per mile figures...the actual total is likely to be higher than simply buying a Volvo diesel that does 40 mpg and keeping it the same length of time. I detest buying and running f#####g cars
