Ok, so I’ve seen the light recently and realised that some of the latest kit that retails at a sensible price is actually bloody good and you don’t need to fork out silly sums for way more expensive kit.

So I thought I would start a new thread ( separate to the ‘Is Expensive Bike Paraphernalia Over-Hyped thread) where people can actually post up items of well-priced kit in one place, be it clothing or luggage etc that they have actually used and determined to work bloody well.

So here goes.

Oxford Products have come on in leaps and bounds the last couple of years and their kit is now fabulous.

Take the Hinterland jacket and pants, currently on offer (has been for a while )

I bought this a while back to replace my £2500 Rukka Nivala two piece.

I also bought the upgraded Dynamic Level 2 armour and used the suit on a 2500 mile trip around Germany and Austria.

It’s laminated but not Goretex, BUT kept me BONE dry in a few huge downpours that we had.It also dried out as quick as a three layer Goretex laminate. And for me it was more comfortable than the Rukka kit at EIGHT times the price.

Gloves ?

I bought some Five X-Rider WPs from Motocard :

Again TOTALLY waterproof and as they are short they are much easier to wear than longer gloves. So good that I’ve now sold my Rukka Kalix gloves that retail at about £220 !!!

Luggage ?

Needed a backpack to use on my XSR GP and stupidly sold my Kriega R30 a while back.

I had a look at the Oxford Atlas B-30 and liked the layout and features .

I’ve used it a few times locally though not in rain yet.

I think the design is better than the Kriega, it’s £60 cheaper and has a LIFETIME warranty.

Helmets ?

Recently bought both a Shark Evo ES and Evo GT in a sale.

Admittedly the quality is not as good as something like a Neotec 3 but it costs about one third of the price .

Obviously helmets are subjective as they need to fit you but the best bit about the Shark is that the chin bar goes right back to leave an open face unlike the Neotec where the chin barlooms above your head in airflow.

On our two week trip I reckon I rode with the chin bar open more than 80% of the time.

Jeans ?

Recently tried on then bought some Bull It Covec jeans

You need to try them on.

My 36” Rokkers were quite tight whereas the Bull It’s are much more roomy. Also they come up long. I’m a 34" leg so ordered Long then swapped for Standard length.

They come with very comfortable Level 2 armour. So pleased with them that I’ve sold my Rokkertechs and bought a second pair.
The Rokkertechs are £399-FOUR times the price.

I’m not saying the Rokkers aren’t better for protection but are they four times as good ??

That’s it for now.

Feel free to add your own recommendations.

And yes I know some of you had Bull It’s twenty years ago and they were crap…blah blah blah…but times change so please keep the negativity to a minimum and only comment if you have bought newish stuff lately and have used it…….

Crack on.

Scott Ergo Pro Jacket (elasticated over-jacket) recently purchased for a Euro tour. Cost me £90 and kept me absolutely bone dry in a miserable day of persistent heavy downpour on a motorway slog through Belgium.

A mate without one wearing the same BMW textile jacket as me got quite wet.

Agreed.

I have the very same for when riding with vented jacket etc and just this very morning purchased the Scott Ergo pants from Motolegends.

Friend has the Scott jackets and was mighty cheesed off he didn't also buy the trousers...

Agree and I have the trousers. Will be getting a set when the boss needs a new set.

as mentioned in the other thread, this time by @EVskij - Isocool T shirts, made from finest dead dinosaur polyester.
https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/aero-ii-isocool-mens-tee-p29119.aspx/

Currently there is a 20% offer so they are £8 each. Even cheaper if you look in the sale for ones in unpopular colours.

I take 3 on a trip as they rinse out and dry overnight. 1 to wear, 1 washed and drying in the hotel room and a spare.

They also do bamboo ones for those worried about the planet at twice the price but one has to ask, "why are you riding a fucking motorbike?"

Thanks for that tip. I’ve managed to dodge most rain but my credits are up. I was looking at a motorrad one in their showroom whilst in for service at £115.

This Scott looks good.

It’s brilliant. Used it in Picos last year

I bought hi viz yellow so doubles as hi viz jacket to save carrying a tabard.

Trousers only come in black

I wanted a HiVis colour for riding in bad weather conditions, but ended up with Grey as I needed a Medium (my BMW Enduroguard jacket is a 54) and they only had Grey on the shelf.

Be warned these are very generously sized garments, a size L was just a bit too loose on me. They are elasticated so can fit snugly and still allow for movement without flapping in the wind.

And thank god for that, or you'd look like a road worker, who'd nicked a Wing.
He would be ok if you could ride without a helmet. Sun bouncing off his bald head would make him stand out.
Good job he aint got big ears he would look like the FA cup.

Indeed they are. I’ve made a mistake ordering a Large, which I worn and now sold it, as couldn’t return it.

Been debating for months which riding jeans to get for summer (when it comes…) riding. Wanted something AAA but single layer as already have good but hot/heavy lined jeans. Just got Roadskin Taranis jeans delivered (in less than 24 hours). What a difference to lined jeans and at £169 with a discount, really do seem to be excellent value for money and look great quality.

Any boots to recommend possibly with a bit of adv style?

I have seen the following:

£179 - Forma Adventure Boots - Black
My concern is about the spiky foot pegs in the GS I'm awaiting delivery of so these might not work, but I'm going to try them on anyway.

£189 - RST Ambush CE Waterproof Boots. I'm going to try these tomorrow too.

I might have just discovered the cheaper siblings of the ones above, also in stock in the same shop so I'll try these too.
£129 - RST Adventure-X CE Waterproof Boots

Any recommendations?
Thank you!

My Forma adventure boots are brilliant - very comfortable, still 100% waterproof after years and lots of miles and still plenty of tread on the soles.
Way better than my old Sidi adventures.

A similar story with my Forma adventure boots. They’re knocking on now so I managed to purchase a second pair from here earlier this year. They’re tucked away until my current ones give up the ghost. It’s looking like that will be a while yet though.
Great boots, comfortable out of the box, wide fitting, still waterproof ish.

Great thread

I’ve bought an RST suit to replace my knackered BMW Rallye - at about a third of the price.
The RST Ranger.
And it’s ace and every bit as good.

I’ve bought the Oxford suit you mentioned for my missus and I’m honestly amazed at the quality for the price.
Totally waterproof and really robust.

I’ve just ordered the Covic jeans from Bullit but the sizing is a bit all over the place and they will need to be exchanged - but at £99 !
They are amazing bang for the buck.
These replace BMW city jeans at a fraction of the price.

I’m now on Knox gloves and these are way better and so much cheaper than the BMW Rallye gloves I’ve been using for donkie’s years.

I think I’m turning into my dad !!

Good to hear your missus like the Oxford suit. I’m going to be in the market for new jacket and trousers in the new year. My current Held gear is a good few years old now and starting to show signs of aging. It’s been very, very good kit but I would like to wear U.K. designed and made kit. I can’t bring myself to spend Rukka money but do want decent waterproof gear. This stuff looks to be just the job. 👍🏻

Honestly - just check out the reviews on somewhere like sportsbikeshop.
The kit is fantastic for the money.
It’s like Oxford have come from nowhere I think with their rider gear all of a sudden.
