I am going on a fairly long trip in a months time so i thought i would check the drive shaft...
The UJ's were fine on my old shaft but the rubber had moved so the ends were out of phase :blast

So i thought to play it safe i would fit a new shaft

Order one and at just over 300 quid a bargain :augie

Fitted it to the bike...Took the bike down the road for a test run all seemed well
Put the bike on the centre stand and span the rear wheel to check things out and there is a horrible noise when i spin the rear wheel :blast

It was not there with the old shaft so i take it apart to investigate and this is what i find :thedummy

The UJ on the gearbox end of the new shaft is over 2mm off centere

The wear marks where it had been rubbing

The shite quality on the crimping

I put it in the lathe to see how much difference there was in movement from one direction to the other
You can see from these 2 pics it was a lot... Hence the binding on the centre stand i could feel

I am surprised it didn't vibrate like a stuck pig on the road with it that far out of balance

I will be returning it and checking the new one very carefully before installing it...

BMW build quality these days :mcgun

the Demant one does not seem to have the rubber shock absorber as fitted to the BMW one, surely there is some form of shock absorber on it.? looks pretty good though

Bet it's been said before but, would CV joints not work better or do they not have enough movement or are the small ones not strong enough??????:rob

He does 2. The std BM unit with cir-clips & nipples or this solid unit for more enthusiastic off-road types.

A year ago it was €525... with the £ as far down the pan as it is at the moment, thats a lot of dosh.
