I've searched and read lots of threads regarding the options for GPS and I still can't decide.

I see that the Quest is small and can be programmed off bike, but the screen is the smallest and memory is limited.

The 2610 has a bigger screen but can't be programmed off bike, although it has the option of memory upgrades.

Initially the 276 seems to have it all but it can only use expensive Garmin memory cards.

As a lot of the threads I've read are quite old can anyone cast a light on recent updates or modifications to any of the systems? The ideal is small, lightweight, good readable screen in sunlight, lots of memory and accurate.

Any thoughts very much appreciated.

Quest 1 - Others 0 !!

I like the Quest unit because of its physical size. Realistically it offers more than enough memory unless you're off round the world.

I had the SPC III before (precedes 2610) and whilst the screen was larger the Quest is perfectly readable - just ask any of the GSers who come on our tours and one day trips at Rainbow and Astles

If you'd like to see a Quest in action and mounted on the GS send me a pm and I'll arrange to meet you at Rainbow where you can also look at the 2610 for a direct comparison.

Hope this helps

All the 26xx range can be programmed off bike but you need a power supply. If you are at home with your PC and your power supply there is no problem but if you are sitting on a terras somewhere in the south of france it is a bit tricky.

A fully kitted 276c (with auto nav kit) will probably sting you the most out of the three. Though its what I chose. You can also get Garmin 256Mb cards resonably cheaply on T'ebay. The screen size and its adaptability swung it for me.

Keith, The bargain buy is the Quest, But if you want a bigger display get a 276c, you only need to buy that data card once (for the 276c), its worth it, it’s a great GPS with a great display.

Also look at Garmin M5. This is a PDA with sat nav, and came out best in reviews. Cost around £450 but you get more than a sat nav system. Worth looking at.

Thanks for all the input.

I'm favouring the Quest at the moment, due mainly to it's small size and weight which make it the most portable. As I don't do much long distance touring I'm not convinced I need the additional capabilities of the more expensive systems.

I've seen the Quest going for around £300 (the best price I've seen for the 276 is £440 plus data card and auto software @£200). On top of that I know I need the cradle and RAM bracket, but is there anything else, software or hardware, that I would need to fit it and use it on the 12GS?

Also, will I need an intercom such as Autocom or is it just a matter of connecting a helmet speaker?

If you are not going to go on longish trips, you'll be fine, but for trips of more than 8 hours with the backlight on or 20ish with it off you'll possibly be in need of a power lead..... available from ram man mid june for the ram cradle... or get a garmin powered cradle instead..............

Thanks for that Schnauzer.

It looks like I just need an audio interface of some kind. Can anyone advise on what's needed to pickup the audio?

both the garmin motorcycle cradle and the cable for the ram cradle from ram-man have phono jacks suitable for plugging in the appropriate earphones........ personally I don't bother with it either in the car or on the bike.............
