I've now sold my V so am keen to get a temporary mount before the RAM cradle appears.

Just had an email from RAM indicating that their cradle will be ready for shipping in 45 days

Clucking bell! That won't be November then as quoted on the GPS Warehouse website.

Cycle mount it is then... can't bring myself to take out a mortgage on the TT mount.

Dead Quest

spoke too soon, my unit like swooper and sherpa's before me has gone belly up (no power)
does anybody know if swooper and sherpa's have been sorted?
and how?
has anybody elses quest died?

I have now spoken to a couple of service engineers who have confirmed my Quest unit is defiantly dead! No thoughts at the moment and it may have to go back to Taiwan?

In the meantime (as there aren't any new ones to be had) I have been sent a loan unit to use whilst mine is being replaced / repaired.

Great service from Garmin so far. Well done.

Owners of subsequent failed units may not be so fortunate.

I will keep you informed of progress.

After a chat with Garmin UK yesterday (Tuesday) they confirmed that my unit is also unrepairable and at 2.00pm yesterday nice man at Garmin told me he had just finished packaging a replacement Quest and it would arrive this morning by Overnight Courier.
I'll keep you posted - but as with the last post - Garmin seem to be treating their customers well once again

Sherps;)

Migsel's handywork has been working again and have seen the results. Thanks Migsel.

The RAM cradle for the Quest is coming (part RAM-HOL-GA15) and latest I hear from Seattle is, its now in the 30 days shipping time to release, so the expectation is still 'end of November' at the earliest.

There's an image of the Quest in its RAM cradle on the home page of www.ram-mount-uk.com which also shown below.

temporary quest mount

hi paul been looking at your thread re the 7650 phone holder as a temporary quest mount and have now got the holder, just wondering how you have cable tied the case to the cross brace, is it through the clip on the back or have you threaded it throught the case itself, just want to make sure it is fastened as securely as possible cheers

Hi Andy,

I just looped them around the clip & pulled them as tight as possible.

At last........... my quest finally arrived on friday... I've not got a ram mount ( due end of december apparently!!) so I've been playing about with it both out hillwalking and out in the car using the supplied suction fitting. Very impressed indeed, i previously had a V and the colour screen is excellent, the speech is fine( but i dont plan on using sound on the bike ) and in brilliant sunshire today it was easily visible. The physical size is amazing compared with the V. I'm going to have a play with loading maps at some point thru USB and see how long it takes, but it came with all the UK and Ireland and a bit of french France pre-loaded, so it may be a while before I need to....

Got fed up waiting for the new Quest cradle and RAM mount to become available, so bought the handlebar mount from Global Positioning Systems, 13 quid or so.

Fits nicely on the cross-piece, though I did have to circumcise the garden hose to make a spacer as the bracket's designed for bars up to one inch.

hello folks,

Has anyone seen the Motorcycle mounting kit (unit bracket, power/audio cable) shown on the Garmin site under accessories for the Quest as part number 010-10610-00? I have an R1100S, so I don't think that the handlebar mounting kit will work for me.

Cheers,

Paul

there's a selection of mounts for the quest in the new touratech catalogue.

it's on their website too

Silent G asks " the Motorcycle mounting kit (unit bracket, power/audio cable) shown on the Garmin site under accessories for the Quest as part number 010-10610-00? " ... "I have an R1100S, so I don't think that the handlebar mounting kit will work for me".

... As far as I understand the Garmin Quest Biker's cradle kit has bare wire cable to allow power and a 2.5mm audio jack.

The Garmin Biker cradle kit does NOT include a mount , so you will need to attach to either RAM-B-202 (round base) so those with SPIII mounts will be OK for this or move to a RAM-B-238 (diamonds base) and is part of the U-bolt mount, RAM-B-149Z or then again the Migsel speedo mount is a further option.

**RAM-HOL-GA15** is coming and expecting some later in Dec (they should ship some pcs out before Xmas), only a trickle of 'em at this stage.

Cheers!

Well spotted that man... the Garmin m/c mount wasn't there the last time I looked.

Quickest solution for now has to be the RAM yoke clamp, arm and cradle then, once the Garmin part becomes available, remove the £10 RAM cradle and replace with the Garmin cradle.

Cheers

Adam :)

***The Garmin 010-10610-00 Quest Bike mount cradle kit is a new item, not shipping yet in UK (just being released in USA), no prices available either**

For your info the R1100 S doesn't have handlebars like the GS so the U bolt won't work. The easiest solution I found was to use the RAM yoke clamp around the ignition barrel with the rubber ball sat in front of the ignition key where you can then attach the RAM arm and position the cradle to suit.

I've used this set up with a V for the last 18 months and had no problems at all.

Adam :)

OK !. The 'latest' I have on RAM-HOL-GA15 is some pcs are leaving Seattle and on a weekend flight on board the "World's favourite".

I am hearing that these GA15's are the first units being shipped and we're getting 'some' which should clear existing back orders (I know who'se ordered !!) .

I shall post a new thread on this next week.

As far as I know, the Garmin 010-10610-00 is a February 05 release product, though I have seen it earlier. This is in USA and not UK/Europe. Its remains unclear whether the cable will be sold on its on. I am aware of two
'third parties' looking at Quest biker's cable and one with BMW plug version being considered. Again, I can see this will be the subject of new thread in the weeks to come.

Cheers,

Just bought the quest (awsome piece of kit) and wanted to be able to keep it on permanent charge whilst on the bike (without butchering the car cradle too much).
Bought a bike mount cradle (£12)
Bought an adapter plug from Hein Gerike(£6) (allows cigarette lighter connection to be used - handy for charging mobile)
Undid the pain in the ass grub screw which holds the charging plate(or whatever the 4 bar connection is called) on to the car mount
This fits straight on to the bike mount cradle.
Replace grub screw -

Result...

Now on permanent charge, can easily be converted back to car cradle. Only problem is that I have retained the speaker, which I presume is not water resistant (plastic bag ). (Kept this on because this unit also, i assume acts as a transformer and the quest takes a 5V charge - wiring it direct would 'cook' the unit? - I could be wrong about this bit, don't know much about it to be honest)

Seems to work fine...

Just picked up my Ram Quest cradle from Steve at GPS Warehouse. Will post pictures tonight. I'll try to photoshop my R1100S so it looks a bit more like a GS :D
