Quest power lead??

Is there a power lead available to provide power from the bike(accessory plug) for the quest? If so, where can i get one from?

Be warned that the Quest runs on 5v, not 12v. You will need either the Garmin cradle which incorporates a transformer or a RAM Q-PAQ (transformer) and RAM cradle. If you don't have it already you'll need suitable RAM hardware to mount those to the bike.

It has been known for users to cut the speaker off the car power lead and wire up to the bike electrics only to wonder why their Quest has now ceased to function.

Both of the above have a lead that can be run to a power source of your choosing on the bike.

Not necessarily - if you have the Quest car mount with its ciggie-lighter power adaptor, you can remove the connector and lead from the mount itself with a tiny torx driver. You can then attach the power lead to the RAM Quest mount with the same tiny torx screw (in fact the RAM mount used to come with the correct size torx bit). Buy an adaptor from HG or similar to convert the BMW accessory output socket to a ciggie-lighter socket. Plug in the power adaptor and away you go

The power adaptor will fit under the saddle if you use the power socket under the seat, and the standard Quest cable is plenty long enough to reach the frame of the GS screen.

I gave up on powering my Quest from the bike and much prefer just charging the unit every couple of days from the wall charger or the 5v USB outlet on my laptop

True, that's an option. However, there will be no audio out (that you can hear anyway) unless you butcher the car power lead to provide one.

and if you put 12v through it, it doesn't work and you have to send it back to Garmin who will repair/replace for about £70 (in 4 days too).

Thick question but .,.,,. as some thieving swine broke into my car and stole my car audio power lead, could I use qpac in my car and on my bike, obviously no audio but ????

The Qpac has an audio out socket, so you could plug in an ear piece or have a small ipod stylee powered speaker

Look at QPAC02-xx has short 0.5m lead and QPAC03-xx has longer 1.7m lead(xx = 25 or 35 as in jack plug size of 2.5mm or 3.5mm).

The plug has a red plastic sleeve so remove from bike for car use .. and don't loose it
