Hi Guys,
I know this question has been asked before but I can't find a definative answer. I have a 2009 1200 GSA and want to fit my Garmin Quest that I had on my 1150. I have the QPAC/RAM set up and I need to know how to power it using a switched connection and if possible not cutting into the BMW wiring. Can I plug into the AUX plug/socket behind the oil cooler ? Is the harness for the Zumo 660 from Nippy Normans of any use ? What are the 3 wires for ? Is there an alternative ?
Cheers Kev :nenau

Hi Kev

I have just fitted a Garmin 60 csx power cable spliced together with one of the BMW canbus cables .If you need a power cable for your gps i got mine from from http://www.gpsbitz.co.uk

See thread for how to do it , it tells you about the 3 wires , you only need 2.

Ten minute job , all works fine , comes on via the ignition and powers off when you turn the ignition off, switches off automatically within a minute or so

The Quest runs on 5V, the CANBUS puts out 12V, so unless I'm missing something, I guess the Quest will go up in smoke wired up like this?

Any thoughts? I'm curious, because I also own a Quest and it'd be convenient to hardwire it.

Tks,
Achim

The QPAC handles the 12-5v stepdown

:thumb as kritou says, 12V input into QPAC black box, Vreg chipset puts out 5V for Quest via the connector pad which goes into GA15 cradle. Do not try to fit QPAC onto a TT cradle frame.

QPAC-02 series has short lead with BMW plug so fit socket connector if second is added onto the beak.

I was able to tin the wires and plumb them straight into the empty aux socket on the front of my 06 GSA, its worked well for my quest and now my Zumo

see here for details
