Quest question (not a stutter!)

The wife bought me a Garmin Quest for my birthday, wow, nice touch.
It's from the US though, so is effectively useless without software and instructions for same.Has the US basemap but 115 Mb of download space .
The unit came with no charger, instructions, software or leads.
The pdf manual is on the net, I don't need a lead (have one that'll do) which leaves me begging here.
Can anyone share this sofware? Is there a source out there?
It's like having your GS on the drive and no keys, it's so frustrating I could crush a grape.
Pleeeaaase help if you can.

Basically, you're going to have a hard, but not impossible, time with a US basemap.

We could... but it wouldn't do you much good. You need an unlock code from Garmin to unlock the maps to your specific unit.

On reflection, even if I buy the software, I still have a 115 Mb space to load it and it seems operating software is freely available as an update from Garmin.
I need a mount for the GS/ van too. Hmm....

Mmmm.....Bit of a pup you have there.

The US version, as you say - has only 115Mb memory, whereas the EU version has 243Mb.

Sell it on US Ebay?

The operating system update is just that, it does not include any maps.

115 Mb is tight, but just about usable for short trips - the density of streets in Europe mean you need more memory to cover a smaller distance than in the US.

I suspect that to buy European City Navigator maps would be uneconomic.

Just a thought - buy a Garmin i3 Streetpilot (£130 in Comet). This comes with software and as far as I know you the unlock code allows you to load onto to GPS devices.

Anyone know if this works ?

Mapsource products often come up quite cheap on fleabay and a version 6 is still a viable package and is certainly better than nothing.

115 Mb should get most of england and wales in and if you traveling further afield you acn always just select the maps around your chosen route. A route from Norfolk to Southern Spain was only about 120 Mb allowing for some leeway either side of the route.

Or buy a £150 streetpilot from GPS warhouse, which will come with V8 and half the bits you need to mount the quest................then flog the streetpilot saying that you have unlocked one code for another gps.

The Quest should have originally come with a car mount anyway.

No. It won't work. It does work the other way, though; you can use the second unlock of a Streetpilot & Quest CN/CS to load maps onto an i3.

Bugger..... I thought this would be an economic way for me to get version 8 for my Quest, by buying an i3 for my daughter.

Interesting cross section of views. My wife just treated me to a mount (ahem) for the works van, the bike mount is still reqd. It should have come with the mount and charger etc, I realise.
In a perfect world, I would have been asked what type of GPS I would choose, so any criticism of it as a present would be just rude and ungrateful. Which I am not.
So,given enough space in the memory, I'll use it as much as I can, and see what decisions I make based on this experience, to buy my next GPS in a year or two.
Then I won't feel so bad about selling it, and I'll have had a cheap intro to a decent GPS (IMO).Thanks wifey and
