What are the differences between the Quest and the 2610/20 ?

Jus in case I come across one of those whose owner left it in the bike....

small screen / big TOUCHscreen
small buttons / big buttons
256 Mb fixed / CF cards up to 2 Gb
built in rechargeable battery / NO battery (only on-vehicle use)
fits in a shirt pocket / rather large to put in your jacket
City SELECT maps / City NAVIGATOR maps
10,000 track points / 2,000 track points
both have voice guidance
both have practilcally the same naviation features

I prefer my 2610 for the bigger touchscreen. More overview on the map, quick & easy address input, big mempory (all of Europe).

Rabbitson for example prefers his Quest, as he uses it a lot in the city: on and off the bike, quick & easy to remove and carry.

Not an easy choice, price is an issue too of course.

Been discussed here before I think. I don't know all the details.

From what I can remember, the road data are the same, so basically you get the same maps. CN contains more information details, like for example when you get instructions to take a motorway exit.

City Select would say:
Take Exit 35

City Navigator:
Take Exit 35 towards Gent / Brugge / Oostende

Both will work just fine and if you're not comparing them side by side I don't think you'll miss anything if you are using City Select. But I can't really tell as I have always used City Navigator so far.

My Dad uses a GPS when he's off on his walking holidays.

He told me that I should use the Ordinance survey grid rather than the WGS84 on my Quest as it's more accurate.

Is he right?

Depends on what datum the co-ordinates were first made in.

If you're going to a street address, to be honest, does it really matter?

Also, how accurate do you want it off-road? We're not looking for treasure, or a food/ammo stash that's been buried, just to get from place to place.

What's starting to happen again, is exactly what happened when GPS first came out years ago.

Some people are turning the unit on and their brains off, ie not looking up at their surroundings.

At the end of the day, it's a navigation aid, nothing more.

You should use the same grid and datum as the paper maps you are using.

(It is not about accuracy)
