Hi,

I've had my quest for about a year. When I first got it I downloaded parts of France and it was happy.

Now, for the first time in ages I've tried to load some maps and there's no detail on the display. The maps are loaded, I've checked.

It's as if its not reading the maps.

I know i'm missing something but i can't put my finger on it!

Any idea's?

.....The maps are loaded, I've checked......

How did you check they are on the Quest?

If you have been using the Quest for a year it's unlikely that you (although many of us still do) have failed to highlight (pinkify) the relevant maps using the funny shaped map tool or selected the option of "Select Map Around Route" before doing the transfer

Tell us how you highlighted the maps you wanted in Mapsource on your PC then how you verified they'd transfered to the Quest :thumb

1. Detail is only available when you zoom in.
2. Level of detail is selectable Menu-Settings-Map Setup-Map-Map Detail
3. Is Mapsource Info 'ticked?' Menu-Settings-Mapsource Info

I bet it's 3 :bounce1

3. Is Mapsource Info 'ticked?' Menu-Settings-Mapsource Info

Menu-Settings-Mapsource Info?

Where's that?

Does that mean you can see the outline of an individual map segment on the Quest's screen (may have to change zoom level and more easily seen with the backlight set to max or "daylight viewing")?

I've checked that the maps are all ticked.

I've zoomed in and out to no avail.

could it be something to do with the fact that I downloaded software from Garmin to update to 3.70 level?

On the Garmin's screen can you see the straight lines that mark the edge of each map?

I've upgraded to 3.7 and I've no problems so I would suggest that it's something else.

<On the Garmin's screen can you see the straight lines that mark the edge of each map?>

When I zoom out there's just the whole of europe with just the major roads on it, hardly any detail.

I suppose the best thing to do is send it back to Garmin and let them sort it out.

Is there a garmin repair facility in the uk?

Bill,

You are kidding us, aren't you?

Two people have asked you to check if you can see the (light) outline of the downloaded map segments. If you can't see the edge of the downloaded area, you haven't downloaded any area. You won't see the map detail when you zoom out.

Moreover, the details of Garmin's UK operation are on the back of your manual! Have you read (re-read) it?

Have you sat down, manual in hand, and gone through uploading a map segment? Both Whatton & Kritou have asked if you correctly highlighted the maps in Mapsource first - a very easy mistake to make. But you haven't answered their questions.

I'm sorry to sound so harsh, but you're not really giving anyone a chance to help you. It may be that your unit is faulty, but it's unlikely.

Sorry chaps!

I'm hoping for a quick fix and it seems there isn't one!

I have just moved and can't find the manual or I would have looked in there for the answer!

All I can say is that the maps are loaded, according to the mapsource page, but there is no grid and no detail.

Bearing in mind that I haven't got a manual to hand... can anyone tell me the address of the repair facility?

Yeah - I didn't read the manual correctly and got into a long e-mail discussion with Garmin before I got my head around the fact that you don't "add" new sections of map - you "overwrite" what was there before.

I wondered why the UK had disappeared when I "added" France  (you have to add France and UK)

I'm sure it is just "operator error".

Try this it worked for me as I had the same problem.
I followed the advice of our very helpful comrades, to no avail. :(
I thought it was me.
Numpty :nenau

It took a bit of courage to try it  but as it turned out it was painless.
If you can, save all your routes, waypoints and tracks before you do this, as it supposedly wipes everything out.

Just do a MASTER RESET. (A bit like CTR – ALT – DEL)
With the unit turned OFF
press and hold OK + PAGE + ON/OFF
say YES to "do you want to do the business"
It reset my unit to somewhere in Kansas (there’s no place like home)
You then have to leave it switched on outside so it can find the local satellites, 15 - 20 mins ish then everything in the garden should be fine (well it was for me) :bounce1

I expected it to revert to the base map but it did show me the one area I had put in for a test. I went on to download my V8 GB maps and speed cameras with no problem

It took a lot of searching about this site to find folk who had done the same thing and this website turned out to be useful too (cheers whoever it was posted it) :clap
