Hi, Can anyone help?

I have an 1150gs, servo brakes.
The rear brake seems to get unusually hot in comparison to the fronts.
I have done all the usual things, clean the caliper, make sure the pistons are free, grease up the slider, check free play at the pedal, ensure the brake is not dragging, etc etc.

I cannot find any problems but it still gets hot (too hot to touch after a short run).

No, I'm not riding the rear brake with my size 12's, in fact yesterday I made a point of not using the rear pedal at all (yes I know the servo activates the rear when I use the front) but I just wondered if it would make any difference, it didn't.

Have I missed something? is this normal? can anyone advise?
many thanks

Have you got a little free play between your pedal and the operating rod? If not you are probably driving around with rear brake partially activated. You will quickly wear pads out and risk a warped disc if not sorted. Had this prob with a bike years ago and that was what was happening.

It could be simply that the rear brake disk has a smaller surface area to dissipate the heat generated, plus it does more work slowing the rear wheel on its own than an equivalent 'pair' of front disks relatively speaking. Also, it sits shrouded from a blast of cooling air like the front disks get.

Personally I would be more concerned if it wasn't getting hot as this would indicate it was inefficient at converting kinetic energy into heat.
