Recently purchased a R1200GS, mdl. yr 07,on 31 Jan this yr. Living at 9000ft
elevation in Colorado, needless to say I had a severe case of PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome),as I waited for snow and ice to disappear. So I spent quite a bit of time in the garage getting aquainted with the new bike.

Here's my question.

Under the seat I noticed that the tool tray in the rear has a semi circular concave shape which mates with a concave track extending to the rear over the fender. At one time an accessory must have been stored in this channel.

Does anyone know what this item was,and what was it's function?

Thanks for the speedy reply guys, much appreciated. Now to let the mechanics at the dealership know the answer. Have a nice weekend.

This thread has a picture and details of the lock

Abus Granite Underseat Lock Storage

BTW anyone know if that type of lock will fit through the centre of the rear axle and back through the wheel?

Yes.......The Abus Granit X-Plus 54 (300mm shackle length) lock, that I bought from 'Nippy Norman' does exactly that.....

When storing under the seat, the actual lock part has to be removed from the shackle. The lock part can be stored where the original tool kit goes....:) :thumb2
