Has anyone had any problems with grey paint going all "bubbly" and speckly on their front wheel spindle ?

Nothing has "broken through" as visible corrosion but the finish looks like lots of "bits" have clustered underneath the paint giving it rather a rough appearance. Rest of the bike is fine.

It's a 2014 GS LC.

If you are refering to the 'inner' part of the front wheel casting? they can be quite rough from manufacture & just painted. Some have had them replaced when the bike was new / just purchased. its nt ideal but not something to worry about

The spindle isn't painted

A photo of the offending item will help :thumby:

Whaaattt ? Metal spinning off because its hot ? Nonsense N&F !!

Thanks, gents.

Have looked more forensically under stronger light and with my best spectacles. It's corrosion.

Contacted dealer and response is coming over to me as "sorry.... it's cosmetic". (Aka... hard cheddar).

Rest of the bike is really fine and in lovely condition. It's almost certainly a poor finish by BMW manufacturing and a poor follow up by BMW Motorrad.

However, it is still unacceptable on a premium brand less than 3 years old and less than 4000 miles on the clock.

I'm still confused as to what it is you are talking about

Is it the spindle or is it the hub? :nenau

Ha ha... sorry... I'm a bit "old fashioned"... it's what you modern chaps call the hub.

I do a good mileage annually. My excuse is I haven't had this particular GS that very long... it's a 2nd hand bike. Ask me again this time next year :)

Can't afford new :(

Old fashioned? Since when has a spindle and a hub been the same thing? :nenau

If your hub has corroded then you will probably also have corrosion to your engine/sub frame

Just so we are on the same page. The engine is the bit that makes a noise and gets hot and the sub-frames are the bit that stops the engine falling out and keeps the whole bike together :augie

Seriously though, have a good look around your bikes as you may find other areas of corrosion :(

Thanks for the advice.... :) Yes, I've had a very good look all round including undersides and all looks good. It's just the front hub.
