Having sold my 1150 last year, I'm planning my move to a 1200 GSA.

I need some quick info around model years...

2006 earliest model

2008 update

2010 twin cam..

Did any of these models have a servo? I'd like to avoid that if poss.....

Should the pre 2008 models be avoided?.

Fact me up...:D

I really don't want anyone riding a owning a GSA who knows nothing about the bike, it's really weird especially hanging around this Gin Joint.

You should drop by the Harley section some time...:thumb

In My Opinion

In my opinion........... after ten years with an 1150......not any problem........just before I sold it final swing arm bearings and the usual corrosion problems. Great bike, great charactor....loved it.
Upgraded to a 2010 GSA.......in the two months I've had it, front ESA shock failed while on the center stand?? Exhaust valve went, (on the way back from getting the shock changed) and even on this corrosion had shown its ugly face.
So......in my opinion got far a later model 1150 adventure.
I'll not be staying with BMW after this........the build quality is disgraceful. Great looking bike, great concept, 2010 engine far better than 1150 but the execution of the later models with all the electronic gizmos is chronic. BMW should be sued for selling an under developed model under a premium badge.

I think the servos were junked in 2008.

I guess, if I were looking for a 2nd hand one I'd at least go 2008 or newer and if I could afford it a twin cam. Having said that my 2005, 50,000 miles one has been a beaut and with a fuel controller and non cat system I have no issues with performance so will be sticking with it a while longer (until I can afford an 1190 KTM :) )

A year before that, Andres. 2007 model-year bikes came with servos on the ABS models.

a bit ambiguous that?

2006 model year bikes came with servos if the bike had ABS. 2007 model years did not have servos, but some 2007 bikes were sold in 2006.

If they're the same as the GS (and I don't see why not) then the ABS/Servo/Linked brakes were an option.

Although my 37k, 2005 GS servo is perfectly fine.

Hey Twizzle... what did the 10 posters above say? I can't be arsed scrolling up. ;)

Can't help with your question mate but your post title made me larf. :thumb

So far... One random post, two posts about Gin, a pm saying buy an 1150, two posters arguing about 2006 MY or 2007 MY being the year BMW dropped the servo....and one post from a 1200 owner wishing he had keep his 1150....:D

Simple answer appears to be... Buy an 1150 Adventure...

2006 1200 GSA with Servo 38600 miles, never missed a beat, no corrosion.

Love the servo, bit snatchy at low speeds but you know you are going to stop.

And NO!!! It is not for sale!!!

Go for non ABS with an earlier model to avoid the servo. TC the best bet if your budget will stretch to it as the engine is nicer.

Don't forget there's also been various upgrades over the years to the rear tyre oiler (sorry.....final drive) :D

Go for a non ABS bike if you can get it very cheap because it will be VERY hard to sell later on. People like ABS.

I have a 2008 model no servo and ABS that works. Its got 40K miles and the front ESA is original. The back was replaced under warranty at 27K. They are adequate, but in the not too long term I'll be having Wilbers WESA fitted.

Decent aftermarket shocks cost around £500 a pop so £1300 for a WESA pair isnt really so daft and I dont HAVE to buy both at the same time.

The finish is OK but last winter did for the rear frame rails and front engine cases, but its recoverable and it is 7 years old. Find any Japanese bike thats been used all year around that will look good after even one winter. On that point, find any other bike that doesn't need the brakes rebuilt every year because the seals are crushed by alloy corrosion.

My only complaint is engine vibration between 4,500 and 6000 revs. But I am working on a vibration absorbing mounting.

What sort of a blanket statement is that?

Absolute TOSH

Some people like ABS and some don't

I would avoid a bike with ABS by choice

I bet there is not more than a couple of hundred quid between 2 near identical secondhand GS bikes, with or without ABS, if that
