Just because I can't find any definite answer in the riders manual.
2008 GSA (used) when you hit the start button (after the initial check) and start the engine is it normal for the Red triangle and the battery icon to stay on FOR A FEW seconds (actually feels more like 1 second) and then turn off?
or shouldn't there be a battery warning at all?

The red triangle stays on while the engine management checks itself. It starts the diagnostics as soon as you turn the key, and will run through the checks even if the engine isn't started. It goes red, then yellow, then off, and takes about 4-5 seconds altogether.

The battery light sometimes stays on a bit after startup because the low revs (idling) means the alternator isn't generating quite enough current to let the engine management know that it's working OK. If it stays on, you can give the throttle a gentle blip, and it should go out.
