quick release fuel line connectors

Howdy folks

Was hoping for some advice on quick release fuel line connectors. Have seen a set on flea bay but was hoping for something a bit better....

Save the old plastic Female QD. You can put a couple feet of fuel hose on it and use it as a fuel system test hose.

The basic idea is to connect the Female/Hose combo to the return line coming from the Fuel Distributor. It's usually the upper line and has a Male QD. Put the other end of the hose in a collection tank and start your bike. Let it idle for 1 minute. You should then have about 2 liters in the collection tank.

If you get 2 liters, that means your in-tank hoses, fuel filter and fuel pump are operating normally. If it is much less, you have an in-tank problem.

This test assumes that the Fuel Pressure Regulator is performing at the correct pressure, but they rarely fail.
 
I can vouch for Beemer boneyard ones, there were the cheapest I could find at the time that were metal as there were a few stories of plastic ones breaking up at the time. If you do order from them, get a few viton o rings sent through as well when you order just incase you catch one. I use a smear of light oil when I connect up to aid the o ring bedding in.
 
Alternatively - I put plastic ones on mine and have three on the feed from my auxiliary tank (all bought off fleabay). In five years and taking them apart innumerable times have had to replace two o rings which started leaking. Always carry a spare connector and a couple of o rings, which is easy since they are so cheap. :nenau
 
Yep i was of the same mind.... i would consider the plastic ones as already mentioned they seem to be ok on the fuel system just got to carry a spare spare rings etc for piece of mind......

Oh what to do!!!:confused:
 
Maybe i missed something, but I don't see why you don't just buy the beemer OEM parts. Cheaper and work perfectly (metal male + plastic female). Keep the O-rings greased with a dab of silicone grease - I've come to discover that last part is v good advice btw...

Just don't get the male parts in plastic (read again after you've finished laughing - lol)
 
I looked at these, and they seem good value compared with the plastic offerings elsewhere.

Then I went to order them and found that the postage cost was $60!!! :eek:

Postage will be a lot less , drop them an email first otherwise they have always offered me a refund on postage. I have sets on both my GSAs, well worth the money seeing as the originals a a critical control point and will snap at some time leaving you stranded.

Yeah have emailed them about the postage issue, as its likely there will be a customs charge aswell from UK fun Police....

if no joy with postage my mate is in floridia in Jan so might be able to get them posted cheaper...

I got a set from beemerboneyard posted to my hotel.

I was looking around in the uk for them first. If you know the specs then this lot seems to have exactly the same connectors here in the UK. Still not cheap though. I've been a victim to a snapped male connector (insert joke here) in the car park at work and I got covered in fuel:(
 
Graham's motorcycles at Bradford stock/can get chrome valves for you - I replaced my 2 x straight connectors and the clips for about £25 each. (No need to replace the females to be honest as it's the males that take all the strain).

He'll even lend you some crimping pliars to get the job done!

That is interesting... are the 1150 fuel systems classed as high pressure?

been looking at those plastic jobbies too hmmmm:confused:

Just buy the BMW Q/D's. They've been using a metal male part for last 3/4 years and so are bullet proof.

Just always have a couple of the small "O" rings under your seat, as they can get a "nick" and leak, same as on any of the other Q/D's available.
 
When I tried last Nov 2014 to get a pair of male metal BMW OEM QDs from Motorworks, they told me the factory has now reverted to supplying PLASTIC ones ! Can you believe it ? Apparently they've sourced from China ( as usual ) a different maybe tougher plastic. So unless Sherlock's or MotoBins has old stock of the metal ones, or even maybe an authorised BMW Stealer, we have to go to Tom Parker Ltd. in Preston for fully professional 5/16s inch fuel grade metal QDs at around £40. Advantage of them is that they omit the perishable tiny rubber sealing ring for instead a proper snap-in closure - but of course you'd have to buy both the male AND the female as a pair, and you'd need two pairs, 'cos a male from their range won't fit with the perfectly adequate BMW plastic female connector, the one with the silver thumb-press button.
