14 plate has different suspension, plus a steering damper. Where the 13 bikes does not.
There are tweaks to the frame apparently, which means certain crash bars don't fit. Which caused me some confusion when getting crash bars.
FYI...... 13 plate Givi crash bars do fit a 14 plate bike.
I asked my dealer about fitting a GSAP to my 2013 bike and was told that yes, the computer listed it for my bike and it wouldn't if it didn't. I even told the girl dealing with it that I thought only after a certain chassis number but she insisted. The computer says yes.
I said to her what if I order one and it doesn't fit ? Don't worry the computer says yes. So I ordered one and next day a bloke rings up and said Sorry, your bike cannot be retro fitted, too early.
So I think you need the 2013 which has a white spring to qualify. The qualifying chassis number is on this forum somewhere.
It can be fitted to RGS's built after 15 Aug 2013 (2014 model update with steering dampener) - the system is incompatible with bikes built before then. Something to do with the wiring loom and extra connector......Compatible bikes DOT start from s/n Z184816 and ECE models from roughly Z128600, hope this helps.
Steering Dampers were fitted due to concerns over high speed stability reported on some 2013 GS's. Allegedly linked to the death of a well known bike journalist.
as far as i can see ,i had a 2013 gs, and the shaft that comes out of the gearbox with the linkage on does not have a tapped hole in the end . but my 2014 with gsa fitted has. this is to secure the switch that controls the electrics when you shift .
