is anyone having issues with there quick shifter on there 2017 1200gs ?
 
Hi Tony, I've had my new GS two weeks now and covered 500 miles, no problems so far.

Depends how you define 'issues'. Gone from a 2015 to a 2017 GSA. Bearing in mind the QS works better when you are giving it beans both up and down I've not tried it in anger as I'm still under 600 miles.
However I have noticed on the upshift it seem to lurch a bit. My previous bike didnt - once I had mastered its use.

2 1/2 month old 2017 GS TE: 4 down to 3 some times requires a very heavy boot. But just sometimes. Altogether, it's much better than the 2015 TE it replaced. But that was also a great bike. The 2017 is even better.
 
I don't like the quickshfter for up changes as it requires a lot of pressure to operate and has to long an ignition cut so is not smooth, and yes I do know how to use it.
I change the old clutchless way with a flick of the wrist, much quicker and smoother. I do use the Q.S. for down changes if riding hard. Most of the time I ride using just 3-6,000 rpm so I don't use it.
 
I have a 2017 GSA with 3000 miles now and it does seem to be easing up a bit as time goes on.
I don't struggle so much now changing up as it could be very difficult at times.
Keep plugging away I'm sure it will get easier.
 
My dealer told me that the throttle needs to be fully closed on downshifts for it to work correctly??? I assume it is supposed to 'blip' the throttle on down changes, but the loan bike I had didn't seem to do this correctly - maybe I needed to 'learn' how to use it, which kinda defeats the object.
 
ok great thanks for your replies, its not just me then, my 17 plate with 2000 miles on sometimes wont change and jumps into nuetral, its currently in bmw preston for repair
 
Unless you're racing why worry about a quickshifter? That's a serious question, not a piss take, why worry about a quickshifter unless you want to shave fractions of a second off your lap time.

ABS, traction control, cruise control, ESA, engine modes I can understand and see the benefits on the road but a quickshifter I really can't :nenau

I guess you've never tried one.
 
Seems to work fine on my 2017 GS. As others have said, you need to be making progress, or coming down at higher revs. If you are just bimbling along, use the clutch.
 
1200 miles on mine. GSAP is even better than it was on my 2015 bike. This one even changes down into first without complaint.

Mine has no ignition cut whatsoever on up changes....maybe yours needs looking at?
 
theres a page in the handbook about training the QS. i followed this and have had no problems 2017 rallye
 
As long as I make sure the throttle is shut on downshifts and accelerating on upshifts it's very smooth. Anything in between and it won't work.
 
To be honest I can't see much point to a quickshifet on a road bike, changing gear isn't hard and doing it well is just part of riding a motorcycle - I'd rather not have the extra complication and weight - not much of a saving I know but it seems as though the weight of the GS is creeping up again.
