Guys

I am about to buy a 17" front wheel from a K1100 (with discs). Will this fit my 1100 GS ? Are the discs the same diameter ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, it will fit fine but you will lose the speedo drive as the K bikes were driven from the g'box rather than the front wheel spindle. I've got both F&R alloy wheels fitted. Front from an R1100R/RS/RT and the rear from a K1. Great improvement and a lot cheaper than the newer ones.

Thanks Paul. Just what I needed to know. :beerjug:

By the way, what rubber do you use on your 17" rims ?. I was considering using BT010s for when the weather improves.

Currently BT020's, and they are more than adequate to scuff boot sliders, even in the current conditions :D

BTW, the rear wheel size for the older 3 spoke rims is 4.5"x18" (160 section tyre) rather than the newer 5 spokes which are 5" or 5.5"x17"(170 or 180 section)

ie: 3 spoke - 17" front & 18" rear
5 spoke - 17" front & 17" rear

HTH,

Mine has a three spoke front from an R, using the R speedo drive and floating discs. Straight swap, just had to adjust the ABS gap. Rear is 5 spoke, again a straight swap.

I'm also running BT020s. Last longer than 010s, so better for commuting, but still good for hacking around the bendy bits. Good in the wet too.

No wheel :-(

Thanks again guys - only problem now is that I missed out on securing the wheel on an ebay auction by forgetting when the auction closed - I was outbid by a measly £2.00 !!!

Anyway, I am still on the lookout for a front wheel.
