Anyone fitted a Quill silencer, have the chance of one for my 2008GSA, also would this affect BMW Warranty cover at all as not OEM part?

I had a Quill can fitted to my Guzzi Stelvio. They are based about 15miles from where I live. They fitted the silencer and then put it on the rolling road dyno to check all was OK. It's a decent piece of kit, great sound from it.

It would only effect your bmw warranty, if any failure is directly attributable to the fitting of the Quill silencer.

In which case, Quill is liable for any damage.

The ECU can adapt for decat headers and aftermarket silencer can. It can't adapt if you mess about with the intake as well.

Thanks Bendy, now for the next question....lol, is their any real world performance gain to be had or is it all noise and little gain? Better off saving my money and Hilltop perhaps? Not a noisy pipe guy and like the standard can, so really answered my own question ...;)

Mine was significantly better with the decat header. Silencer just sounded different and save a few pounds weight over OEM.
The OEM can was loud without the catalyst.
I then went to the full on Akraprovic shotgun system with a Power Commander and the difference was amazing.
I had planned on going to Hilltop but the PC came up used so I went that way.
Hilltop with the exhaust and intake you expect to run long term makes sense.
Others really like the AF-XIED lambda shifters. We don't have independent figures for one against the other.

If money's tight and you want performance then decat headers will give you much more bang for your buck, also makes the exhaust a bit more noisy but in a good way IMHO.

You will find reasonable decat headers on eBay from £200. Don't ignore the crusty looking ones they'll clean up. Obviously avoid anything dinged or dented.
They appear on here for sale from time to time.

I began with Remus headers until the Akra shotgun system came up. I sold the Remus for what I paid.
The OEM standard can is not especially quiet. I'd say a Remus Hexacone makes less noise.

Decat headers are first port of call and give more bangs for your buck, then an end can.

K&N won't give much improvement, then get fuelling set up and you will have a smoother and more efficient bike which may even make more power.

Certainly "food for thought" I'm enjoying the 1200, over the 1150 and 1100 previously, but just that hole in the rev range , which took me sometime to adjust too after the 1150. And the fact I can't leave anything alone without tinkering ...:beerjug:

All of the main makes of silencers for the GS have been tested on a dyno by a German magazine and if you're very lucky and/or spend lots of money on the like of an Akro, you'll get the same BHP output as standard!
Most of other brands reduced power. Only two showed a very slight increase, around 2 BHP, but with a serious increase in noise!
De cat headers will give a slight increase in power with a slight increase in noise.
If you want to get a real improvement in performance, driveability and smoothness, then it has to be a re map from Hilltop or AF-XiED O2 manipulators. Power Commander is good and cheaper option but there are issues with them.
If you want to be an anti social git like Bendy, terrorising folk in their cars, then get a loud pipe. :D They do get tiresome pretty quickly, though.
Get the fuelling right first, then look at exhausts if you still feel the need.
I've no experience of re maps but here's a thread about the other two options. BTW booster plugs and similar are snake oil. Been there, done that.

What hole in the rev range?

I have a Quill end can (with Remus headers). The Quill has been fine for about 40,000 miles. However the badge on the side has faded so you can't read it. No issues otherwise.

You sound like the ideal customer for the AF-XiED widgets. They shift the lambda signals so the engine can run richer or weaker. Hilltop change the basic map to get the correct air/fuel values and spark timing where the standard map (for whatever reason) does not.

I don't have any flat spot around 4000 revs, wonder if my bike has already been hilltopped?

It doesn't vibrate very much either, which also makes me wonder. Is there a register?

Cheers everyone, going to pass on the Quill I think , and may look into Hilltop etc .
