R 80 G/S wanted for magazine feature

Jason hi how are you doing? (i still have your pannier rail hung up in my garage:blast)

can you remember who's was who's Dakar in that photo? just wondering if one was Thunders that eventually became mine?

D

The easy giveaway would be the rear shock.... :D

I'd say go ahead and lend them your machine.

It will, of course, be most easily arranged by email. Not that you'd ever need to use those emails in a county court for breach of promise or some such.:)

G/S

Probably posted this in the wrong bit but here goes, just seen one of my old girls on e bay asking price £8950.00, I should drop the chap a line and tell him I rode it in the Ilkley trial in 1994.

Gentleman's Wee-kend seems the obvious place?

The O.P. is rather quiet.

Yes, apologies for that, I'm delighted to say I had a really good response to my request and a suitable bike has now been located. Hopefully we'll get a suitable spot of weather this week for a photo shoot.
I'll try and post some pics of the shoot in due course and will let you know when the article is going to be published.
Best regards,

Rob,
Thank you for the reply.
You could do a lot to reverse the common view of journos here.
I know all are not the same, but many (myself included) have had bad experiences after 'helping' certain publications.

Looking forward to the pics.

Well Og ,

I'll try my best to improve the current low standing of motorcycle feature writers on the forum! We did the test and photo shoot yesterday and it went very well indeed.
Gary Burton of Bavarian Adventure Motorcycle World www.bamw.co.uk very kindly loaned a beautiful early bike upgraded to PD spec and it was good to reaquaint myself with the charm and virtues of the G/S. We had a very enjoyable day out which for me started with a pleasant ride across to Derbyshire on a Laverda trail bike which is my current daily transport [see pic] and it was interesting to compare the two bikes back to back.

The off road stuff was quite genteel because I'm currently nursing a shoulder injury but it was enough to remind me that a G/S can be a handful on certain types of terrain. It was a cracking bike and beautifully set up, all credit to Gary and his meticulous preparation.
The following is just a snapshot taken by me , when I get clearance to publish the official photos I'll post 'em up.
I'm hoping the article will reveal one or two things which are not widely known about the G/S, I'm not sure when it will be published, probably early in the New Year.

Not quite right..
Most PD's were converted in the showroom/workshop on the PDI from a kit ordered at the same time as bike...
Side panels were sometimed requested to be left on by the customer..

That's if they had been told they could be.

I personally had a set that original buyer didn't want, long before I got my own 80g/s ....
saved me £££'s

Rob

glad you got sorted... that really is a damned fine looking example of the breed... and i think you should be most gratefull for the loan..

i look forward to reading your article! please pop back and let us all know when it will be in print.

seriously!

i still wouldn't lend you my bike though:D
