Here and there, now and then.
Can anyone suggest some nice looking panniers suitable for a 1990 R100gs. I need a left side (smaller size) standard BMW item to compliment the right side. However at £200+ for a new one from Motorworks and being unable to source a decent second hand one I'm wondering whether to bite the bullet and get some ally adventure style ones. I don't want massive panniers, somewhere I've seen some slimish ones. Is it possible to buy the 'ally' type panniers that will fit onto the standard BMW pannier frames?

I was considering selling the bike (yellow/black 'bumblebee') after recently aquiring a nice Triumph 900 Trophy to use as my bad weather bike, but each time I get on the GS I enjoy the ride so much and know I'd regret selling it, especially since over the last 1000mls it's had new tyres, battery, starter motor, pushrod tubes, carb rebuild, timing chain and tensioner and is now running very sweet.

The other notion I've had is whether to take it off the road and restore it, or leave alone and let it grow old gracefully (it's in fairly good condition cosmeticly). Perhaps I'll just get the seat recovered, and get the subframe, crashbars, and rack powder coated.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure :)

Please don't over restore it... these bikes age well, and somehow take on the patina of experiences gained.

Re. the panniers... they turn up on eBay now & again, or try Roger at Ard Cases, his stuff is lovely.

I have Metal Mule panniers on my '89 R100GS, which are good, but realistically you'll need a substantial frame, and the BMW ones aren't really that strong.

And don't sell it, you happen to have the best GS ever made :thumb2

I have a pair of BMW plastic panniers that came as a std fitment .
Presently gathering dust .
I also have a pair of frames chrome , i think , with a cross brace ,i think .
Neither of which i care for .

I aslo have a set of Flat steel bar Frames ,which are plastic coated ,
which i will sell , You can mount any pannier to these simply because they are a flat bar.
Alternately i will make you what ever pannier dimensions ,you want for the R100GS .

Presently the R100GS is a very hard to find in any kind of decent condition . I wouldnt restore the Bike , but i would tidy up any rough bits..

I can sell you some of the oil it dropped on my path !!! :rob

Oi! that oil leak has been fixed, 'twas the pushrod tube seals. Anyway 'Krazzee' paving is so last century, it now gives you an excuse to replace it. I know some Pikey blokes who'll do a good job :D
