I've seen pictures of (I think) an Oilhead rear light dotted with LEDs. Is a similar device available for R100GSs and if so who sells them? Ta.

Well there was somebody on here about a year ago, or so, who had made a batch of led light inserts exactly the same outline as the reflector, connector positions as well.
Think I had the last one.
Would be a good item to get back into production again. No rear bulbs to blow!
Anybody got drawings, led /resistor details?
I've got contacts through the electronics assembly industry. Could get them made up.

Yes, Techno was the man who made them. I've got one
and would love another for the other PD!
When I met him at Crapaud's one year, he said
that they took too long to manufacture(his
kitchen table!), so he wouldn't be making any
more. Shame-they are really bright !

Thanks for those very interesting links, just what I'd like. I have emailed Techno in the hope that he might be prepared to make at least one more LED rear light for my 1989 R100GS-PD.

Motorworks stocks them - at least they did last year when I looked. Search for LIA43757

Motorworks LIA43757 - "NOT for R100GS Paralevers". It doesn't mention the reasons.
Depending on Techno's response then, I would be prepared to 'reverse engineer' and make a batch.

Again the Boxer Supplies mentions "not for GS bikes".
Just looked up on BMW fiche. These LED insert panels will fit the following models as a direct replacement for the internal reflector/bulb:
