R100GS Sidestand

The Kenny Stand

Hi Migsel
Put me down for one too, it will save me trying to make one myself, after all I did start this thread!

Oh dear, what have I done :P

At the moment I'm quite busy designing the 1200 light bar.
As soon as that is finished, I'll take a closer look at this.

Cheers,
Michel

Probably the best order - you know airhead enthusiasts are here to stay, 1200 owners are fickle fekkers who'll be on to the next great 'thing' as soon as it needs a tyre changed :D

Universal Prop Stand

The above is a "universal" prop stand. Looks like it clamps around the lower frame rail. Could do the job.

Thats a good idea Howard but there will have to be some modifications as the frame is about 1.33" diametre rather than 1" as supplied with the stand so it cannot be directly fitted to the frame.

So, I think I will look at making an approx 6" x 1.5" x 3/8" bar bolted between the centre stand bolt and the footpeg bracket (as per Kenny's stand) with a 3" right angle bar welded to that, below the footpeg and hanging the Universal prop stand off that somehow.

...don't think that "Universal" could possibly be long enough to suit as a prop.

That's why I would have the " 3" or so" piece at right angles to the 6" bar!

OK..pics taken of the 'Kenny Stand' for all you engineers out there.

Enjoy :thumb

This is identical to my Nigel Huish copy of a Surefoot stand. I'm more than happy with it but Grant Johnson of Horizons Unlimited ridiculed mine at the last Derbyshire meeting as the angled piece does hang down a fair bit and could dig in on rough ground - not that I'm likely to go there. :o

Tis true that it sticks out a bit..but there's ALWAYS someone with an opinion isn't there !!! makes the world go round I suppose. If I was going serious offroad..then I'd use my XL600 Honda !! Or maybe ( only takes a minute ) remove the sidestand..but the pro's definately outway the cons !!!

If you want a "Surefoot" style stand fabricating to an amazingly high standard, then contact Ernie at Overland Solutions (type it into Google). He sorted one out for my old GS. It was brilliant (as is all of his fabrication work).

Michel, If you need to borrow a surefoot stand I've got a unused one but it hasn't got the frame mounting bracket.

Howard, those universal stands are useless, they crush the frame tubes and still slide round the tube.

Sounds interesting Rob.
Do you want to sell it maybe?
Cheers,
Michel
