Hi,
has anyone got / had a towbar on their GS?
Was wondering if I'd have to make my own or if anybody makes a kit etc?

Want to have the option of towing a trailer so I can take the barbie/fishing gear/diving gear/son's tricycle/comfy chairs and stuff that is a bit of a hassle to fit on the bike and was thinking of making something that is relatively easily removed (plug in connections).

There's probably folk recoiling in horror but have seen a few on my travels and was always jealous of the amount of kit (one guy in the States was towning a small sailing dinghy) the they could take along and simply 'unhitch' when they arive leaving a virtually empty bike. Also useful for loading up with contraband on the return journey.

Cheers,
Mick

i am quite interested in a demountable tow bar have been offered interesting trailer. but not found out about bar yet if you find a supplier i would like to know. or if you can get plans i have the tools :thumb cheers. Bm

Theres a firm in Oz that sells them
My pal had one but has now sold it
It was a towball mounted on a piece of 5 mm plate secured to the bike from the rear footrest monts then suspended down from the subframe
looked great worked very well
I will try and find a picture or two

ah thats great was thinking it would mean a whole new subframe. now what are the legalities of fitting one or does a 92 airhead predate the rules. pictures are good, got a small winter project now :D

My mate Timmy had a landcruiser engine on his trailer - He did say it was a little dangerous and daft but he had no other quick transport at the time
( and the road to his home is a single track lane with grass in the middle )
he is barmy but also a great man. So there is / shouldnt be an issue with normal towing - I made the trailer from a cut down camping trailer ( the one with the "wheelbarrow " wheels

I think the only legislation surrounding this issue would be to do with the total weight being trailed in relation to the towqing vehicle...

Okay, Dougal is riding the bike.

Can we assume that Zebedee, Florence, Dillon and the daft cow are in the trailer? :aidan

I think you have to tell your insurance company also - I'm sure theres a clause in the policy saying to contact them if you suffer from hallucinations or strange ideas:D:D:D:D

AndyT - in a town near you;)

My 80 paralever pulled a trailor with no problems what so ever.

In the process of building a side car for the old girl ready for the '08 Elafant and Tauerntreffen.
