Riding home from work tonight on my 91 R100GSPD, turning into the end of my road engine died, I tried restarting and it spins over but pops and bangs from exhaust will not restart, some very loud BANGS/misfires from the exhaust.:nenau

So where to start...........timing?

My coil a long time ago had a hairline crack in it, easy to spot at they're a deep orange colour.

Sounds more like the bean can or ICU to me - or connections. Coils normally cause bad running but rarely fail outright.

Timings perfect, is it red? :D

Thanks for all the replies, after dinner went out to the garage took the tank off, had a look at the coil and found the shrouds that are on the plug leads and should be pushed up tight to the coil had either been left off the coil by myself or had slide down the plug leads themselves. So I gave the leads a good push into the coil sprayed leads, coil, plugs and shrouds with a good spray of demoisturising fluid, pushed the shrouds back up the leads and tight onto the coil (these are tight on the leads so I think I must have left them off last time I attended to them) started her up and ran smooth as a nut.
So will ride to work today and hopefully no more problems looks like it was just winter damp and crud getting into the coil connections.

Years ago I rode an airhead into a car park on a very hot day. It was running sweat when I rode in. Later that day I was recovered home because it would not start at all. Coil replaced and sweet again. Glad yours is working now.

turn the ignition on and then Flick the kill switch on and off quickly with a spark plug and lead laying on the cylinder head. If it sparks consistently the problem will more Han likely be the bean can. If it doesn't spark consistently it could be the coil, ignition black box or another issue.

I know this sounds a little vague but it does help to pinpoint the problem.
