Had one fitted for over 18 months now, had to buy a kit, expensive then but I do have spares. It uses one of the bulbs that moves the 'capsule' backwards and forwards to change between main and dipped beam. The beam pattern is not the best but then it never was very good anyway. But you get an awful lot of light and less electrical load.
The only problem that I have had with it is than the wiring in the solenoid, in the bulb, (the thing that moves to do dipped and main) broke after about 3000 miles, then the same happened to the spare. I have taken both bulbs apart and reconnected the fine, broken wire, given it some support to cope with the vibration and its been fine ever since.
I just bought a kit and then sorted out how to mount the different bits, it took a while but did not involve any cutting of the original loom as all the parts were supplied in the kit. The kit was made in China, but I think most of them are these days. One thing is for sure, the price has dropped a lot in the last 2 years
