R100R brakes

I've got a '92 R100R with twin discs. The RHS disc is very loose in its bobbins and rattles horribly. I can live with the noise but it makes it quite grabby and bloody atrocious in the wet, it seems to take a couple of seconds to clear all the water off the disc before it finally bites.
Now I know that in an ideal world I should replace both discs and both sets of pads, but times are tight and the EBC pads have only been on there a few months.
So, do you think I can get away with just rplacing the duff disc with a new EBC one?

Is it the bobbins that are worn or the disc itself?

If it's the former you might get away with replacing the bobbins only

I'm pretty sure I've seen this discussed at length before, and the verdict was that these bobbins aren't replaceable. Shame that would be a much cheaper option.

On the basis of putting the least money out and most time in.
I'd give the caliper innards a thorough clean.
Then perhaps spend money;
a new sping on the retaining pins.
Does that model have dust seals? - they can 'grab' the piston and hold the pad to the disc After that - renew the bobbins.

The last thing i'd spend money on would be a disc!

I've been through the brakes on my K100 to solve a few issues - all that's left to do is renew bobbins on one disc.
Simply cleaning and ensuring good movement on the bits that should made a big difference to mine.

Take a look aT what Wemoto have - I have their Kyoto disk on my GS and it is fine, and , in Oz, a fraction of the cast of an EBC

Got excited there but they only list the ebc disc for my bike and at about £30 more than Motorworks.
Hey ho...

Still I'll have a delve into the calipers first as suggested and see if that gives any improvement. I've got a feeling that disc might fail the MOT though.

The bobbins can collapse if they wear too badly BUT yours shouldn't have floating disks?? Are the disks from something else? If they are original disks I'd get a new one on ASAP. If they pads aren't grooved they you may get away with using them again.

That diagram is not very accurate. The discs are not like the ones in either of the frames there. Hopefully I've just attached a photo.

Brakes look the same as the R100Rs for sale over here and on the Mystic I owned. Shoot me down if I'm wrong but I thought the brakes and several other bits on the R100R & Mystic were the same as the K series.

Well they're not like the abs version shown above. But looking more carefully the R110r diagram is right (sorry Rob!) but very misleading as it shows the disc from the back, which means you can''t see the "bobbins" which aren't true bobbins like you'd find on a fully floating set up. They're more like a rivet that hasn't been fully set.

I've just had the calipers off and they seem fine, although I will get stainless pins before winter. The pads are ebc double H ones which are like new so I guess I probably will be looking at new discs for the MOT.
The bodger in me wants to jam some coke can "shims" behind the disc to stop that infernal rattling but I'm trying to be good these days....
