Hi Guys,

I have a questio for you....being a newbie to the r1100 world.

Just been fixing up a few things on the R1100. I need to put a helicoil in the right hand side cylinder head as some monkey has stripped the threads. My tool kit has gone missing so I cant get to the spark plug. Can I remove the cylinder head cover without removing the spark plug?

While I am here, would anybody know what size the threads on the cover bolts are? I dont have the bike here to check and would like to buy the helicoils today before hitting the garage after work.

Thanks in advance!

George

The cover bolt threads are M6, it is possible to remove the cover leaving the spark plug in place but you may well have trouble getting it back on without disturbing the rubber seal which should be fitted to the cover (the seal is around the spark plug when removed.)

guys is it easier to remove the spark plug when the cover is off?

Never even tried doing it that way. Not sure I would want to try. not sure I can see a reason for trying either.

plug out then the rocker cover off.

No difference.

Cover can be removed with spark plug in place or removed. Makes no difference to how you replace the cover, plug in or out.

Spark plug can be removed with cover on or off.
