Winter's coming yet again so the spanners have started rattling.
I've done a few basic mods to my '94 R1100GS to free things up a bit, plus fitted the 17" wheel conversion, but it's serious decision time.
Change the cam, different exhaust system and modify the induction side,or....one-off camshafts, remove injection system and fit carburettors, port the heads, mappable ignition system, lightened flywheel, etc.
I know the best real-world performance aid would be a set of Ohlins, but,as with most mods, they're done because they CAN be done!
Has anyone on the site done anything serious with the engine?
Have the 'S' type cams been tried? I know they're hardly a radical change, but was any gain actually noticed?
All comments except buy an R1 appreciated! :D

Well tell us more then!

How much?
What improvement have you got?
Is there any lag?
Is it rideable at all rev ranges?
How bad is the fuel consumption now?
Etc etc........

We need to know, and we need to know now:D

How much? 40000 Swedish kronor.
What improvement have you got? 130 Hp and 170 Nm at the wheel.
Is there any lag? Not to much to talk about.
Is it rideable at all rev ranges? YES, you only need 4th and 5th gear.
How bad is the fuel consumption now? Not too bad, between 5-7 liters / 100km depending of how hard you push.
Etc etc........

We need to know, and we need to know now:D

The turbo is definately the way to go,however.....I now live in France, the land of the 100bhp limit,no insurance company here will even quote for turbo conversion so it's no go:(
In the late '90's,Steve Burns in England fitted a turbo kit to a GSX1100 and it gave 270bhp at the rear wheel on the dyno, love to see the Gendarmes faces after they've tested that on their mobile unit :D
So...this means all the mods must leave it looking like a sleeper,I'm still trying to find a source for camshafts,Kent Cams were good for one-offs on the DOHC engines I worked on in England, but they've yet to make a set for the oilheads,it may be worth sending them a set with the proposed alterations and see what their response is,it will be interesting to see if BMW will be as forthcoming with the material specs of components as Rotax were when I was developing new parts for that engineHas anyone ever asked for this type of info before?

Moose,

Just watched your playtime clip and would like to say that you're :GS:GS:GS:GSing crazy.

Sorry mate that is about the only thing on my 94' 1100 I could not break...YET.

Does the lighter flywheel give you a quicker rev?

How much work was it to dump the fuel inejction system and what carbs did you opt for?
