Noise and performance is a very subjective thing, I have a 20+ year old harley with straight through 2 into 1 exhaust it is LOUD, the BM on the other hand with the remus viper is barley noticeable and not really loud at all !!! on the other hand the performance of both is about the same.

What mileage are you getting? On the 20 litre tank I get to 200 miles before re-fuel. . . well usualyl around 186-190 to be on the safe side and I can get 19 litres in the tank. Thats with the cat by the way...

If I can get that kind of mileage I will be happy :thumb2
I have just got mine right after returning it to completely standard, I was down to 150 miles on a tank, not ridden much for a month but this tankful seems to be doing better than before.

10 miles to the litre... so 240 miles to the tank.. if I ran it 'dry' - Completely dry... to the point of laying the bike down on its side. (never actually done that.. but its nice to know its available in an emergency)

The longest I've left it was 200 miles... and squeezed 20 litres in. (so there was 4 litres still in the tank at that point - with 2 of them - or 20 miles, readily available)

I never go on the Motorway... and tend to avoid NSL dual carriageways as much as possible.

before the swap over I was getting much less than that.. plus heavy sooting at the can end. 'dry black' plugs and surging. - the exhaust swap cured all that at a stroke. The difference was remarkable it transformed the bike.

btw.. i dont rely on the fuel guage. I believe the float mechanism on my bike is faulty or askew.. I get a steady 'warning light' at 160 miles. I ignore it and rely on the odo. and always fill the up using the main stand.

dont know why you would want to, it sounds bloody horrible with a aftermarket exhaust on, seriously has anyone ever had a gs with ''can'' on ride past them at 50 or so.

if you have you would chuck it straight in the bin, like a dripping wet fart.

anyway, yeah as motobiker says, it all depends upon the bike, some like it some dont, some it really fks up.(runs dangerously lean) as usually people who want a ''can'' want a k&n to go with it

it makes stuff all difference to performance, sounds shite, but saves weight i guess.

Agreed....................they run better with the stock set up.

I bought a 11000 mile mint 1100GS a couple of years ago, which had just had a brand new Remus set up put on it................the bike ran crap - so after getting it home, i swapped it for the original exhaust that the seller let me have in with the deal

Too loud?, whats wrong with you? My 1100 as standard sounded like someone farting in a hosepipe. Wheres the fun in that? Clearly the best thing to do with the standard system is wiegh it in for scrap, it's sodding heavy enough.

No wonder BM's have an image problem. Bloody hell.

I recommend fitting a nice loud pipe, warming the bike up, placing it in a large workshop or similar big room, and giving it a nice cheering fist full. If the resulting sound doesn't bring a warm naughty glow to your heart, give up and buy a peugeot instead.

quite clearly you have no idea about the bike you ride.

having it warm up??? no the engines dont like this, and they blow out their oil glass throwing oil everywhere fucking up the engine.
you start bike and ride away.

the bikes are set lean from factory, this is to allow passing of emissions, you start playing with this without altering the fuel (add more) by fitting a techlusion or pc4 and you run the bike lean.

bmw gs image? yeah ok, you bought into it didnt you?

loud pipes save live, once again, you have no idea, you just read something and think hell yeah thats for me,
the Doppler effect on exhausts allow you to hear it from either great distance or very close up, thats why you can hear a sports four from miles away, and a low beat close up.
but if your that far away your not in danger, if your that close your gona hit so, there, i hope you can understand you bmw rider you.

Fine if you only ride to the burger bar and back or on a sunday afternoon. Try riding any sort of distance day after day and see how knackered a loud pipe makes you feel.

And feck worrying about the image, I'll leave that to those that want to impress teenagers.

Mines a 1100GS 1995 model , co pot fitted.
Remus revolution pipe fitted.

220 miles to tank, plus a maybe a gallon left on a long run.
180ish miles,blatting around country lanes.

Rode 600 miles a day on Bulgaria trip . 4 thou top gear touring ,the bike sounded like a bomber..(Not annoying at all.)

If blipped the pipe will roar , but taking it steady sounds like a twin with a throaty pipe.

Ive not noticed much difference from standard pipe , apart from a quicker take off (but that could be my throttle hand , making it go quicker to hear the pipe)

I didnt like standard , too quiet, pitty because its a full stainless system and is shaped better to the 1100. the kick up follows the rear subframe.
the remus is more straighter , not flowing..

Ive tried the link mod , and the mid range was much quicker , but lost top end.
So took it off and left standard.

Try the pipe out, if ye dont like it , sell it on...

Remove the original system from an 1100 and you are effectively throwing away the best part of £800. Which is how much the thing costs.

Makes me smile that these are then sold on for (in the case of mine) £25. I was cock-a-hoop to get one that was effectively unused for that price... his loss was my gain.

I can understand the reasoning for changing over.. the weight of the original is huge.. but then what does that matter on such a lardy bike? But the cons outweigh the pros.. well done if an aftermarket works well on your machine.. but just because it works for one bike doesn't mean it will work on another.

That much is abundantly clear.

Re: loud pipes save lives

Can't you tell when someone is teasing you? Grumpy people.

For the record, my bike has a remus revolution on it and runs very well, good plug colour etc, and I do 10,000 miles+ on it annually. Not very loud, nice bark but no more.

It is a bit of a tractor tho, but at least it sounds nice.

Take care,

Olly

did think it was a tad tongue in cheek, nevertheless there are people who do believe what you put, and its scary because they will either break their bike, end up in a big heap, or busted by the bizzys.
thats why so so many come from sports bikes to gs's (image thing) realise they are what they are (read tractor related) and within a few months are back on a jap 4.

tis what it tis
