The fork legs on my '97 1100GS have been neglected by the previous owner and have suffered from corrosion. I have contemplated stripping and powder coating, is this a viable option ?

My main concern is the 'crinkle' finish, is this a removable coating or a casting finsh ?

i think the texture is a casting finish, and the silver coating is a painted finish - ie powder or stove type

if it was me doing it - i'd nitromors the paint off, bead blast them then natural anodise them - this would clean them up but still keep them original looking.

You take your chances when you get used things anodised, the place that I get all my stuff done, says it's a real hit and miss affair. Getting it clean enough is the problem, even ultra sound isn't a guarantee off a good finish. I've got a couple of old rocker covers in the garage that I've been meaning to get done, but I was put off a bit when they said it was a bit iffy.
However, one of my mates wa building a supermoto, and he couldn't afford any posh finishes, so he got them blasted, and then gave them a coat of yatch varnish, looked really good as well as almost bomb proof, still looks good after 6 winters commuting. Just a thought.
