Hi, searching the net to do this job and came across this site, now according to the Haynes you have to remove the rear sub frame, but reading on here you only have to tilt it up.
Can someone give me a step-by-step guide on how to do this?
Thanks in advance.

.

Follow the general instructions in the Haynes Manual, when you come to undoing the fixings in the air box, dont forget one at back, undo the bolts connecting the subframe to the gearbox, and engine leaving the bolts on the bracket in place but slackened as in the pic, The subframe will tilt upwards, a ratchet strap will help, The airbox is removed downwards.

Thanks for that.
So the fuse box stays connected to the frame and lifts up with it, is there enough slack in the wiring loom to do this?

Right got the sub frame tilted up, but the wiring loom from the fuse box to the main loom is in the way, I can see why Haynes say remove the sub frame because then the wires could be moved out of the way past the battery carrier.
The gearbox wont come straight back far enough with this in the way, so what should I do?

The wiring loom isn't in the way ??. I've done literally hundreds of gearbox removals and never removed the subframe.

I can assure you it is in the way, now it might have been moved if another owner had removed the sub frame and not routed the loom in the original place.
This is an old bike, its had a few owners.
I'll try and get pics up.

How can it be in the way. The loom runs along the top side of the airbox to the fuse/relay box. Lift up the subframe as far it will go and the fuse box is up out of the way and wiring goes with it.

The only wires that get in the way are the earth wires that run behind the top of the gearbox around the battery box studs.
