R1100GS Ignition switch...

Hi Guys, just been informed I need a new ignition switch. I'd put the steering lock on yesterrday and couldn't get it off this morning. Managed to turn it to switch the parking lights on, but it wouldn't go back the other way.

I've just been looking at James Sherlock's site and he has a barrel with keys. Any body gimme an idea how easy or otherwise it is to replace the barrel? Pennies are tight at the moment, and that's the cheapest option for now.

Not being smart but have you tried a little oil? Not wd40, something like 3'n'1 oil. I'll probably get lifted out of it for suggesting such a common product...

It might keep things moving until you get it replaced? All I know is my ignition barrel on my 850 needed replacing and it was expensive to get done in the dealers.

you can buy a barrel and key from motorworks, its easy to replace if you can turn the key, best trying some oil.

and make sure you lube the steering lock pin that goes into the headstock
