R1100gs paralever to bevel box gaiter

Straight forward job with the right tools. Give motorworks a call for a price and they'll talk you through it too. Do a search here for related threads, some with pics.

Yeah cheers gonna give motoworks a call tomorro n order the gaiter .. done a search but there is so many posts on paralever stuff ..so jus gonna do it myself ..job looks easy to do

Just be careful. Loctite is used at the factory to secure the bolts. Apply heat carefully to loosen. A previous owner may not have applied it when reassembling however. Various vids in YouTube to help also.

I have had a look @ the nut and it has a white paint line on it striaght up n down ..dunno if thats what they did @ the factory or if a po had done it ..ye phad a look @ them ..:thumb2

I would suspect then that the PO has not used loctite and has painted the marks as reference marks to detect any movement.

I would have guessed the opposite...white paint = factory mark.

But that's no guarantee of course! As Scottboxer said, regardless of threadlock having been used, I'd go for heat and a lot more than you might expect (way hotter than you can touch, about 120°C).

Yeah had read somewhere white paint =factory ..it is very uniformed as if its a stencilled mark so guessing its never been touched ..gonna use my blowtorch on it carefully the gaiter is ripped any way so wont matter if it gets damaged ....

It's an obvious one, but concentrate on that blowtorch flame. Keep it on the bolt only. I know Chris Harris says he's never had any discolouring using a blowtorch (he's had way more practice than me ), but aside from that, the swingarm is only alloy, as are the paralever bolts, you need to get the heat as local possible, and the bolts are a cheap replacement compared with the swingarm .

Yeah I intend to keep it on the bolt only ..cheers for the info didnt know they were ally bolts:thumb2

Order a heatgun off eBay, less Than £20, you won't regret having one to hand when working on these bikes
It will more than pay for itself on this job, it's not worth scorching the powder coat.you can also use it to assist bearing replacement.
You will need it again if the swing arm needs to come out or the rear shock.
You know it makes sense:thumb

I would buy one but no use to me as my lock up has no power ..also the shock is away to get rebuilt @ ABE

Are there battery powered versions?

Sounds like you're stuck with the blowtorch. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just keep that flame on the spot

Er, mask it with a bit of tinfoil with a hole in it if your worried about the paint.

I've never actually needed heat to remove them anyway.
