Can anyone tell me is the remote adjuster part of the shock unit replaceable.

Tried to adjust the preload and the plastic cap was just turning on the nut underneath put a spanner on in and its was seized solid.

I cant make out if it possible to just replace that part? Anyone with any info on the subject it would be gratefully received thanks.

Run Dismantling oil on it for a few weeks. It should free up.

sorry you misunderstand, I have taken the little screw out and the plastic cap comes off it has obviously been busted for years as the hole in the cap which should be a hex is round, underneath the plastic bit is a 14mm bolt which the plastic cap is supposed to turn, a little bit of pressue with the spanner indicated that this was seized solid no movement in any direction, a "little" more pressue and the nut came off in my hand "doh What an idiot!!"

So it has to be replaced or rebuilt, or left as it is for the moment, it works just the same as it did before I tried to adjust it.

To be fair I think that this has been a problem in the past for a previous owner, and it was chemical metal or araldite'ed into place !!!!! I had not bothered trying to adjust it before but was two up with luggage at the weekend and just tried to stiffen it up a bit, and as it was not playing had a look to day and realized what a mess it was in.

Mine was siezed solid then I got the bike, I removed the plastic knob, wire brushed it and applied plusgas penetrating spray, I applied a quick squirt every couple of days for a week, eventually I put a six sided socket on it and leaned on it, it now turns so freely that I had to stick some tape inside the adjusting knob in order to give it some drag as it was winding itself up/down when riding, mines a WP shock but Im sure you will have the same luck with the standard one, just be patient :thumb2

1) you may need to say... 'Its sheared off' you cant repair with derusting kit.

2) I'm really surprised that Tarka hasnt yet made any of the obvious comments re you and breaking the shocks.... maybe he has learnt the art of being (scared) sensible until drunk:hide

I would still attempt to free the thing, even if it meant cutting a screwdriver slot in the top of it, once free it will need little effort to adjust and you can get creative with JB weld or similar to refix the hex/knob.

Reckons he'll rebuild them, he'd be worth asking if he can replace your broken bit maybe?
