Whilst cleaning the front callipers today I found...

SBS pads in one side and EBC in the other
pistons the right way around in one side and wrong way around in the other - or appears that way to me - it's hollow

Cause for concern?

I've had the bike since June last year and ridden 4000+ miles, went through MOT no problem

Both sets of pads are worn, so I'll replace them, I've always done this as complete sets on previous bikes, but the pistons?

The pistons move freely enough, though don't seem to want to 'back off' leaving the pads to bind a bit on the disks..

All OK as I've ridden with no problems or is it waiting for trouble?

TIA

The piston will be hollow because the covering has been broken off at sometime in the past (usually by someone levering the piston back with a screwdriver etc), plenty of bikes the same as yours out there .

Nothing at all to worry about, carry on as you are.

Great stuff, thanks :)

bit odd that all 4 pistons were the same..

Not odd at all. There are pistons that are hollow. All depends what was to hand when they assembled your calipers.

The pistons on mine are hollow, I use an old pair of pads to lever them back so they don't get damaged.
