hiya i know its probably been asked a few million times before but i can,t seem to find a straight answer so i thought i,d put it to the panel so what plugs do you use.i,m asking because after going through the usual with the dreaded surge its still slightly there just off idle.after playing with differant plugs i,ve noticed a differance going from a 3 electrode to 2 electrode plugs it idles better so i,m toying with the idea of trying some of these champion rc9yc single electrodes.any good?

any surging?

No matey.. bikes a german import. uk exhaust. no ccp. nothing remarkable. no surging.. hasn't done that since I got rid of the original exhaust with its buggered CAT. (bike was originally a cat C that had stood for best part of a year)

have you considered riding it down to London.. and have it Steptoed.

Whats more inportant is that all the other variables are set correctly

Valve clearances, Rocker end float, Throttle sync, etc etc

But IF you have done all that already tehn autolite 3923 is the favoured one I think for surge cures

and I believe it cross references with RC9YCC

I have tried a range of plugs having access to a local motor factor who has an excellent range of NGK in Stock

My favourite was from a 2.2 i Honda Accord NGK - ZFR5F-11 stock number 2262 that is the long (projected nose) bugger at the right of the photo

Left to right

Brisk DOR14LGS...FR6LDC...3923...RC9YCC...ZFR5F-11

people say a plug is a plug but the Brisk "seems" to give a sharper throttle response and definitely running at high speeds it again seems smoother

Next would be the ZFR version but both them seem to give more top end and a nippier throttle Whilst the others seem bettter at low rpm the 3923 is a good comprimise but then I didn't have any surging but it is the favoured swop for our american cousins

It doesn't matter how many electrodes a plug has it only fires on one. The only reason for having more than one electrode is the spark always uses the closest electrode so as the closest wears and the gap increases the spark then uses the next closest so the plug will stay in gap for longer.

I've found nippon densos keep their gap and just never seem to wear out. For what it's worth they use two electrodes on the 1150 and three on the 1100.

Autolite 3923s for me, after trying all the usual choices. Better running and starting, will run with any grade of fuel and they're very cheap.

:thumb now thats what i like to hear having just won 2 on fleabay.i,ll keep you posted on how they perform.thanks for all the replies.

I have never ever been able to notice any difference between different makes of spark plugs while riding a bike ( i tell a lie, there's an eastern european make that is noticeable but i can't remember the name).

The only difference i've noticed is the life of the plug gap varies.

NGK burn out the gap faster than bosch all the others are somewhere inbetween. But if used in town NGK last longer than bosch :nenau
Nippon denso gap last the longest in any type of use..

I'm with Steptoe on this. I have used a few of the above but never noticed a difference. NGK single electrode, NGK multiple, NGK platinum, Brisk, Bosch. They all still parp and fart sometimes slow riding and there is more gain to be had with all the other service settings being set up well.

I know it's not much cash but I will be going for standard type plugs from now on.

I used to have a RT customer rail about his 1150RT surging, on and on, moan, bollock, moan. It rode it 40 miles varied riding and it seemed fine...

Sir, if it feels smoother on Brisks...:D

Surge Problem

I've started using 97 RON fuel in my 1100 and this seems to address the surge problem quite effectively. Most of my riding involves low speed, low rev commuting, where the surge was becoming a little annoying. I try to stick the normal 95 RON in when I know I'll be doing longer trips.

Any update, Bart.................were the Autolites any good?

sorry folks completely forgot about them.yes whoever says plugs are plugs is talking complete and hutter bo***cks:D.i have certainly noticed that my bike starts up/idles better, although i have to say i cant notice any differance in the way it runs on the road.cheers
