Ignition problems on my RT (misfiring - hes is new and tests fine, fuel system pressurizing etc) and I suspect the coil. Checked Clymer manual and it shows a different coil to my one in the schematic pertaining to checking resistance on the Ignition coil with a meter and it has different contacts to mine.
I have no bother testing the secondary field (7.3 ish) - but am getting a reading of .001 on the primary - please take a look at the image and tell me if this is the correct way to test the primary windings (reading between the two round pins). If my method is incorrect please advise. thanks

Thank you for the reply and the link Ian.

My reading for the secondary is 7.23k ohms and .9 ohms 0n the primary. I understand what you are saying about static checks, it only starts to misfire after the engine has been running for about 3-5 minutes. I presume that these readings mean that i'll be forking out yet more cash ...

Thanks again

Does sound like the coil is on the way out. Starting to break down under load.

If your sure your plugs and HT leads are OK, then really all that is left is the coil.

Ian

Edit
Running your bike in complete darkness should show whether the HT leads are breaking down or not. Nice lightning display.

Yep, HT leads check out fine, looks like i'll be on the MZ for another week while I wait for the postman.

Thanks again.

I just read about your problems with your BMW engine misfiring (when the engine was at operating temperature, the engine would misfire). Now I would like to ask you a question about this topic.
Was it the ignition coil, or was there another problem with your BMW 1100 RT?
Did you solve this problem in 2015?
