I'm very tempted to buy a R1100S (and have been for some time) but have never ridden one. Ideally I'd like to ride one for at least a few hours / couple of hundred miles before I commit.
It's a bit of an odd one I grant you but I was wondering if there were any of you brethren that might have an R1100S that I could take out for such a ride?
Naturally I'd reciprocate with my KTM 950ADV in return for the duration. :thumb

Anyone?

Bueller.......

I went RTW on one in 2002.

Beautiful bike:) It's in my garage with 175K on, but currently dismantled awaiting (probably never) restoration so if you've got a few hours you could put it back together for me and have a ride as a reward:)

That's pretty impressive on both counts! RTW and a 175k 1100 :bow

Cheers for the generous offer. You'll understand if I hold out for an offer to ride a bike that's currently fully assembled :D

I've had an R1100S for about 10 years along with my GSA and I still love the thing. Bottom heavy, beautiful on corners and pops right back up coming out with a bit of gas. I'd offer mine but Ireland might be a bit far to go for a quick spin ...

They are a wonderful wonderful machine. I've always been tempted, but I'd go too fast everywhere on one. Handle great, comfy and of corse have that wonderful engine. For what they cost now, I'd let ya heart rule your head. You'll always move it on if it's not for you without losing money (as long as you pick up the right bike in the first place).

Tunner... we need to talk then :D :D :D
I also have a Boxercup that needs some work :D

I might have the very thing for you (er-minio's old bike - Boxer Cup Replica with Ohlins). We were going to pay you a visit anyway to talk paint jobs :beerjug:

That bike is still mine....... on a sentimental level...

If its the 2004 Boxercup they are REALLY fecking tall

the pre servo ABS ones are a great bike and there was a Touring guise as well as a sports guise

Basically the handle bars mounted above the Yoke was touring and Below the yoke was sport

I only found this out whilst on holiday a few years ago when two brothers were up in Scotland at a rally I was at

Bizarre to see one in a more crouched position than the other apart from the colour bikes were identical and the brothers the same build

Took a couple of looks to see the difference just 30~40 mm if I remember correctly

See the height between the top of the rear wheel and the seat base they jacked them WAY up for the 2004 season

In all honesty I'd be looking at an earlier bike which I'd no doubt do a paint job on. I do love the Mamola rep but wouldn't have the budget.

Sounds absolutely perfect!!

er-minio called me last week but I was on holiday up in the Highlands. I'm back to work tomorrow.

er-minio - Give me a call tomorrow and we'll arrange something!

I've said it before and I'll say it again .... I bloody love this place!!! :D

Sure. Will call you in the afternoon.

Between me and Metropolis there is A LOT of carbon and plastic bits that need some paint :)

Lots to say about the R1100S, but we'll talk about that in person... if you can get through my accent :D

You'll love the S Chris... I had one for a few years and put 25k or so on it, sold it with 57k on the clock, running crisp and strong. It had a full exhaust system and had a different chip, I think the cans were Laser??? Not too loud but pulled really strong through the rev range. A really great bike, my first boxer, although I had borrowed a 75/7 to do some dispatching on many moons ago, and I got the bug for flat twin paralever weirdness from it. Get a standard one and work your magic on a special paint job!

It is worth it to log in at boxertrix and even pelican forum. Had the 11s since 2009. Very good bike if you are not into outright performance. Good handling considering it weighs like 225kg. Corners beautifully on track but the slower sharper corners needs a steady hand. From the front it is ugly but the rear 3/4 is spot on. A bit like a porn actress. If it is good enough for RTW then it does Garmish and back without a sweat. It is a bike that needs to ridden, not like my GSA that feels like it is on autopilot.

A few things to note. Full service history is important as is condition. Excessive play on the clutch splines needs a new output shaft thingy. Battery should be tip top always to swing the engine. High mileage units could have a rattle in the throttle bodies that would prevent an accurate set up, easily cured with a ticker killer. Some people never touch the suspension so the bits that can adjust seizes. Boxercups with the Laser exhaust and chip seems to be smoother than the normal 11s. Otherwise just the general maintenance with a bit of elbow grease on a Saturday.

Giving it some

Couldn't say it better.
Most people complain about the R1100S. They're just used to the GS that is one of the easiest bikes I've ever ridden.
Riding the R1100S needs some "attention", but it's incredibly satisfying. Especially considering that is a bike design from almost 20 years ago...

They also sound lovely with an Y piece and some laser cans... :D

See you guys at Cadwell.

Nice one. See you there ;)

After my first week with an 1100S I thought I'd forgotten how to corner. Turns out you actually have to shift your body a bit rather than just vaguely thinking about where you need to go!

Dare I say it, even better than your HP2? :D

I'm away at the moment Chris but I'll be back in the UK next week (and at Brands Hatch on the 4th). We'll arrange a time to meet when I'm home :thumb2
